Okay, yes, you can take the phone. (but what happens when the battery dies or there is no service???) Lost, you are.
Getting topo maps is very easy. Go to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and download the appropriate maps.
Also available are the U.S. Forest Service maps.
