The Cartography Center began when President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Office of the Coordinator of Information in 1941. The 1st director was William “Wild Bill” Donovan. One of his recruits was Arthur H. Robinson (OSU PhD 1947) who eventually started the Cartography Section.
