Since we cannot celebrate this year’s event in-person, we invite you to join us by watching this video to commemorate Light Up the Lake instead.
We hope you get to check out the beautiful lights on Mirror Lake sometime soon. Take a selfie in your mask and post it with the tag #LUTL2020 – we will be choosing some our favorites to feature! Wishing you a safe and healthy holiday season.
Did you know that, in 1870, The Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College was established by the Ohio General Assembly? Three years later, instruction began on September 17, 1873. So today is the 147th anniversary of classes! In 1878 the institution’s name was changed to The Ohio State University and the first class, composed of six men, graduated. One year later, in 1879, the first woman graduated. And 45 years after our beloved university was established, the chimes in Orton Hall rang for the first time – February 22, 1915.
So happy Founders Day to all of you!
(Thank you to our faculty treasurer Cathy for some of the cool facts about today’s historical significance!)
Check out some of the most recent articles, artifacts, and cool pieces of Stater and Buckeye history our diligent Traditions committee has shared with us at our last couple of luncheons!
Whether you want to learn more about the extensive impact inaugural members of Staters have had on campus, OSU’s past battling with the 1918 Spanish flu, or to learn more about the history of the 125 season of Buckeye football, we’ve got you covered. Thank you Briana and Nathan!
The Spring 2020 Stater Elephant has arrived! Thank you to our Alumni Liaison, Austin Cool, for the most recent rendition of our OSI alumni newsletter.
Thanks to everyone who joined for the zoom meeting to discuss operations for this upcoming year — what a crew!
We are looking forward to the start of the year and will be making more announcements soon on official meetings times, recruitment events, and overall plans for the year. We are currently planning on making most, if not all, of our events for the year virtually accessible, if not exclusively virtual–so we are sure we will have many more zooms to come! Hope you are staying well and healthy, go Bucks!
Join us on Thursday, September 5th from 5-8pm in the Ohio Union US Bank Conference Theater for the Student Leaders Summit! Attend this conference to improve you and your organization as you learn how to find external sources of funding, collaborate with other organizations, increase membership, and make seamless leadership transitions. In addition, there will be a raffle for two Penn State tickets at the 40 yard line, and there will be t-shirts for all participants. Hope to see you there!
Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend to celebrate the unveiling of one of the most exciting Stater projects to date – a 20,000 pound granite sculpture memorializing The Ohio State Marching Band’s very own Script Ohio tradition! There were many familiar faces, and even more new friendly ones, to behold the new Stater site, located immediately south of the Shoe in the Lincoln Tower Park Field. To further celebrate this momentous occasion, we welcome anyone to come #DotYourOwnI by taking a picture with the sculpture and tag it to share it with all of us! Here are some of our favorite pics from Friday below.
