Chili Cook Off with Beef, coming to the Fair!

The Fairfield County Cattlemen are looking for the very best Chili that’s made with beef in Fairfield County! In order to find out, all County residents are invited to participate in the first ever Chili Cook Off with Beef! The contest is being held during the Fair on Thursday October 15, 2015, in the Ricketts Hall beginning at 2:00 p.m. This open class Fair event is open to county residents and sponsored by the Fairfield County Cattlemen’s Association. Cash prizes totaling $375 will be awarded to the top five places.

To enter, the recipe should include beef as the only meat, plus no more than 9 additional ingredients (not including water or plain salt and pepper). Bring your best chili recipe; spicy, sweet, tangy; we’ll take them all! Remember – BEEF is the only meat allowed!

Entries must be made through the Fairfield County Senior Fair Board office on the Fairgrounds through the normal “open class” entry procedure. Enter Class # 114A in Book 40, found on page 60 of the Fair Entry Book.

  • Recipes that meet all the contest requirements and fully prepared prior to delivery will be judged based on flavor (50%), convenient preparation and cooking (30%) and appearance (20%).
  • Two copies of the recipes must be submitted on a 8-1/2” by 11” sheet of paper with exhibitor number, the name of your recipe, and the heat index. Do not include exhibitor’s name – any recipe with exhibitor’s name will be disqualified.
  • Upon submission, all recipes become the property of the Fairfield Cattlemen’s Association, and the Fairfield County Agricultural Society, which have the right to publish, promote or advertise the recipes and the contestant names and photos without compensation.
  • Any age contestant may enter – one recipe per person.
  • Entries should be brought in crockpots (at least 2 quarts of chili, and no names on them) or something to keep them warm. Please bring a serving ladle with your entry as well.
  • Deliver prepared entries to the Ricketts Hall on the Fairgrounds between 12:30 – 1:30 pm Thursday October 15, 2015.
  • To be judged Thursday at approximately 2:00 pm in Ricketts Hall
  • The judges’ decisions are final.
  • The ‘Top 5’ entries will be awarded at the beginning of the beef portion of the Sale of Champions on Thursday, October 15 with samples being served during the Sale.
