ASPIRE physics camp for high school girls June 3rd-7th and June 10th-14th

Hi 4H friends,

OSU physics in Columbus will be running a physics camp (2 SESSIONS) for high school girls June 3-7 and June 10-14. The camp is a mixture of STEMcoding activities (including the asteroids game from the STEMcoding youtube channel), hands on STEM activities, and panel discussions with women in science. It will be ran by ASPIRE (Achieving in Science Through Physics Instrumentation, Research, and Exploration)

Per the rules of the Ohio Department of Agriculture, all livestock exhibitors (market and breeding livestock) must either attend a Quality Assurance Program (QA) or successfully test out of QA in order to exhibit livestock at the Shelby County Junior Fair or the Ohio State Fair. A parent or guardian of all junior exhibitors (ages 8, 9, 10, and 11) must also attend one of the sessions. Intermediates and Seniors who have not already tested out can do so one hour prior to the start of each QA session. QA can be taken in-county or out-of-county. Those exhibitors who take QA out-of-county are responsible for reporting and verifying what session they attended, as well as when and where.

Quality Assurance Test Out Guidelines

  • Youth ages 12-14 who pass the test can test out of their annual QA program for up to 3 years. Passing of this test only exempts attendance at QA until the member reaches a 4-H age of 15. At that time, they would take the 15-18 year old test.
  • Youth ages 15-18 years of age who pass the QA test can test out of their annual QA program permanently.
  • All ages are based on a member’s 4-H age (the age that they are as of January 1 of the current year).

What will be on the Quality Assurance Test?

This year the test will primarily be over the Good Production Practices 7, 8 and 9 but other Good Production Practices will be included.

We recommend that members study their 4-H Project Resource Book, focusing on the Quality Assurance section of the book.

  • Must be submitted to the Extension Office by May 17, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.No faxed copies or late forms accepted.
  • Pictures must be included with this application at time of entry.
  • A maximum of 5 pigs may be entered per hog-exhibiting child residing at the family’s primary residence as listed in 4 – H Online or, for FFA members, at the school at which the exhibitor attends.
  • Only 4 hogs per exhibitor may be brought to the fair

Any of the following combinations are allowed (per exhibitor):

  1. i. 4 purebreds
  2. ii. 3 purebreds, 1  crossbred
  3. iii. 2 purebreds, 2 crossbreds

THREE  pictures must be  included with this  form for  each hog entered.

    • i.  The hog must  be  clean.
    • ii. Minimum  picture size  is 3”  x 5”

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost Seeks High School Students to Serve on Teen Ambassador Board

Teen Ambassador Board 2019-2020 Academic Year

Who?

The Ohio Attorney General’s Teen Ambassador Board is open to high school juniors and seniors from public, private, home, charter, and online schools located in Ohio. Ideal candidates are motivated, enthusiastic, self-starters who are interested in law and government.

What?The mission of the Teen Ambassador Board is to provide Ohio’s future leaders with an inside look at Ohio law and government. The Board consists of high school students from around the state. Applicants selected will serve a one-year term and convene twice in Columbus during their tenure on the Board. Members will advise our office on issues relating to teens and work with their peers to develop solutions to those issues. Students will be placed into small groups, advised by an Assistant Attorney General. Members will attend presentations on a wide variety of topics.

Students will also have the opportunity to meet with Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, attend events around the state throughout the year, visit our Columbus and regional offices, interact with Assistant Attorneys General, and hear from various elected officials.

Why?The Attorney General’s Teen Ambassador Board gives Ohio’s teens an unparalleled opportunity to engage in government and law. Students will address some of the greatest issues facing our state and develop solutions to improve the lives of Ohioans. Ambassadors will have the opportunity to receive training on important and pertinent matters, meet with elected officials and interact with Assistant Attorneys General.

Previously, the Board met with the Ohio Attorney General, members of the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives, toured the Ohio Supreme Court and met with Supreme Court Justices, and spoke with senior administrative staff, employees, and BCI scientists of the Attorney General’s Office.

State 4-H Fashion Board

State 4-H Fashion Board

The State 4-H Fashion Board is a group of outstanding 4-H teens from across the state interested in clothing and textiles. Counties can nominate one 4-H clothing member for each year’s State Fashion Board. Approximately 20 teens are selected for a one-year term. Selections are conducted during the Ohio State Fair Fashion Revue and application materials are included in the State Fair Handbook. The State 4-H Fashion Board’s purpose is to assist in conducting the State Fair 4-H Fashion Revue, 4-H clothing workshop sessions and promote Ohio 4-H clothing projects and programs.

The State 4-H Fashion Board meets face-to-face four to five times during the year. A fall orientation meeting is held to review the roles and responsibilities of State Fashion Board members, and develop plans for educational programs throughout the upcoming year. A winter meeting is held to recognize retiring members, evaluate the prior Ohio State 4-H Fashion Revue, and finalize plans for educational programs the group may decide to conduct for the year. Board members present at the Ohio 4-H Conference in March. A summer meeting is held to prepare for the Ohio State Fair 4-H Fashion Revue.

The Ohio 4-H Event Youth Assistants (4HEYA)area statewide group of 4-H teens that assist with Ohio State Fair events. In this process, members have an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and be involved in the State 4-H program. They develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and aspirations needed for future success.
