2025 4-H Cultural Immersion Project

What is it?: Participants will seek an understanding of a different culture by applying to be part of the 4-H Cultural Immersion Project in Puerto Rico! Participants will build multicultural skills and understanding, as well, as an increased ability to communicate in the increasingly diverse society that we live in. The group will experience both the Old San Juan urban area as well as life in the remote mountain town of Castañer. The group will be working with Puerto Rican youth in joint service projects and leading teambuilding activities for students at University Gardens High School.

Who: Ohio 4-H teens ages 15-18 (by the date of the trip and still in high school)

When: Tuesday, November 25th- Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025

Where: Puerto Rico

Cost: approx. $1,500 (includes airfare, ground transportation, most meals, lodging, and program fees)

Interested?: Interested teens must be nominated by the county 4-H professional. If interested in attending, reach out to Katie Miller, 4-H Educator, to submit a nomination on your behalf by May 1st! Those who are nominated will be asked to complete a short video application (due May 31st) and follow up interviews will be scheduled for select applicants. Selected applicants will be notified by late July 2025.

2025 4HEYA Applications Now Open!

What is it: Youth will gain experience working events at the Ohio State Fair, while gaining the opportunity to enhance leadership skills and involvement in the state 4-H program. Youth will receive a 4HEYA polo, 4HEYA nametag, State Fair admission/parking tickets for the days worked, State Fair meal ticket(s) for the days worked, and optional state fair housing in the Rhodes Center Dormitory.

Who: Individuals age 13-18 (as of January 1st of the year of application) and have at least 1 prior 4-H experience

When: Apply by May 15th, selection, training, service to OSF and evaluation (Responsibilities are completed by August 31st, 2025!)

Requirements:

  • Must attend one of the options for training (July 10th or July 15th)- This is non-negotiable!
  • Must work a minimum of 3 events of at the Ohio State Fair (may work more if desired)
  • Pay $25 fee/person

2025 Urban Immersion Project

What is it?: The 4-H Urban Immersion Project (UIP) is an Ohio 4-H initiative that combines cross-cultural learning, teamwork, and service learning in the urban environment of Washington, D.C.. This year marks the 12th anniversary of the UIP experience! Participants will build skills and abilities to prepare youth for success in a diverse workplace and build cultural understanding of those who are different. This experience will not be about shopping or sightseeing, however, there will be some monument and historic site visits.

Who is eligible?: 4-H teens ages 15-18 and still in high school are eligible for this 4-day service learning experience!

Costs: $250- includes most meals, program fees, overnight lodging, and transportation

When: Thursday, September 18th (6 AM)- Sunday, September 21st

  • When: Saturday, April 12th, 2025 (Doors open at 8 AM)
  • Where: Holmes County Fairgrounds- Millersburg, OH
  • What: Learn from top clinicians and pick up new tips and tricks at this free educational livestock event!
    • QA will be offered that morning. Registration is REQUIRED for QA and county 4-H Educators will receive a list of attendees from their county for credit.

Ohio 4-H Sea Camp

Through partnerships of Ohio State University Extension and organizations that offer aquatic education and water recreation, Ohio 4-H Sea Camp at Kelleys Island has offered hundreds of young people the opportunity to learn about aquatic science and experience a variety of recreational watersports on Lake Erie. Sea Camp is offered to youth ages 14-17 (as of January 1st, 2025).

The mission of Ohio 4-H Sea Camp is to offer teenage youth an introduction to the Great Lakes through hands-on experiences in a variety of aquatic-based programs. Sea Camp will enable participants to experience Lake Erie-based activities and culture such as aquatic science, water recreation, and fishing. The program is supervised, educational environment fostered by Ohio 4-H and The Ohio State University.

Objectives of Sea Camp:

  • Participants will gain an understanding of safety applied to watercraft, sun, and open water recreation.
  • Participants will explore a variety of potential career opportunities through learning from professionals in aquatic science, natural resources, and watersports.
  • Participants will gain lifelong skills fostered through educational and recreational water-based activities, while developing lasting friendships and comradery with peers.
