Re: Market Rabbit Check-In and Tattooing

This packet contains information regarding market rabbit check-in and tattooing procedures.

Changes for 2019

  • NEW! Self-Tattooing Option: Rabbits may come to the check-in already tattooed OR without tattoos. The ONLY allowable number and letter combination for 2019 tattoos is SC19. The tattoo MUST: be in the rabbits RIGHT ear, be legible and be placed correctly (to be read from left to right, with the first letter “S” furthest from the rabbit’s head).
  • ALL rabbits must still attend the Market Rabbit Check-In.
    • If already tattooed, Junior Fair Board members will count the rabbits and verify the tattoo is correct and legible.
    • If not tattooed, Junior Fair Board and the Rabbit Sale Sub-Committee members will tattoo the rabbits at that time.
  • A maximum of seven rabbits can be tattooed per exhibitor, but no more than five rabbits (two meat pens and one single fryer) may be exhibited at the fair. Exhibitors are permitted to show only one single fryer which could be a rabbit separate from the pen(s) or a rabbit from the pens.

Check-In

  • Market rabbit check-in and tattooing is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Sidney High School. Please utilize the map on the back of the page as a reference regarding location and traffic flow.
  • While highly encouraged, the exhibitor does not need to be present. Family members or friends may bring the rabbits for those who are unavailable.
  • Per the Senior Fair Board, the fair veterinarian highly suggests that exhibitors start rabbits on Corid solution two days prior to tattooing and continue dosing them for three days after to ensure continued health. They also suggest that exhibitors follow the same routine for check-in and weigh-in at the fair (start rabbits on Corid two days prior to check-in and continue dosing them for three days after). Corid can be purchased as a liquid formulation at your local feed store or from your local veterinarian. Any questions regarding prevention of coccidiosis or dosages of Corid should be directed to your veterinarian.

Quality Assurance

  • In addition to check-in attendance, ALL market rabbit exhibitors MUST have completed a Quality Assurance class or prove their knowledge by “testing out” in order to exhibit at the Shelby County Junior Fair. Please visit http://go.osu.edu/shelbyQA for details about Quality Assurance.

If you have any questions, please contact the Shelby Co. Extension Office at 937-498-7239 or by email.

Sincerely,

Cassie Dietrich
