Mike Bettes is the host of Weather Underground and the lead tornado tracker for The Weather Channel. Mike has worked for WLOS-TV in Asheville, NC, WSYX/WTTE in Columbus, Ohio, and WKEF in Dayton, Ohio. During his time in broadcast meteorology, Mike has covered everything from tornadoes to hurricanes to blizzards to floods and wildfires. Mike’s weather coverage has garnered numerous awards, including an Emmy award for storm chasing and a national Headliner Award for his live reports during the Joplin, Missouri tornado. He adopted a golden retriever that was left homeless after the tornado and named her Joplyn. Mike is certified by the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. He likes to kayak, watch Buckeye football and work out. Mike is a self-proclaimed uber weather nerd, he owns 5 weather stations and named them all. His favorite is Al Bedo.
