A toast for example is a common part of weddings. But alcohol, we now know has numerous negative effects. Alcohol can damage the heart, the liver, and is linked to numerous cancers. It can be consumed to excess and can lead to dependency and life-threatening withdrawal. So, how do we as physicians balance the common and important societal uses of alcohol with the negative health impacts and guide our patients to avoid and treat unhealthy alcohol use?

For this topic, we’ve invited a national leader of Alcohol Use Screening and intervention who happens to be here at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. We are pleased to introduce Professor of Internal Medicine Dr Daniel Jonas. Dan is the division director of General Internal Medicine here at Ohio State.

So, clinicians caring for all ages can benefit from being familiar with Autism and the unique aspects of its care. To that end, we’ve invited two of Ohio State University’s experts in Autism Spectrum Disorder. Dr. Christopher Hanks is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine who founded and directs the Center for Autism Services and Transition. And Dr. Ashley Byrd is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry who specializes in treating patients with not only Autism Spectrum Disorder but also Intellectual & Developmental disabilities.

ADHD has become more and more widely accepted and the prevalence has been increasing over the past couple of decades. Now, parents report nearly 10% of their kids struggle with ADHD. Rates in adults are increasing as well—and untreated ADHD can have serious negative consequences including higher rates of motor vehicle accidents, substance use, employment troubles, relationship problems and even suicide. So to help us better understand Adult ADHD and its treatment options, We’ve invited two of Ohio State University’s Psychiatric experts. Dr Justin Barterian is a Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor who specializes in diagnosing and treating ADHD and learning disorders. And Dr Lacramioara Speitie is Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist and Assistant Professor with clinical interests in ADHD and learning disabilities.
