Defiance 4-H Poultry Families
Come one, come all!
We have a lot of new members joining the poultry world, and all the information out there can be intimidating and confusing. We hope to make things a little easier and more enjoyable for everyone!
We are planning a series of poultry mini clinics to discuss all you need to know about your poultry projects! We will start with the basics about the different classes of poultry, where to get your birds, and their requirements (feeding and lodging), as well as important dates for the year. For the remaining meetings, we will dive a little deeper into the poultry world, ending on the final date with the required pullorum testing and a showmanship clinic.
Anyone who attends can enjoy light refreshments and a chance to win a prize at each meeting! (YES, we are bribing you to come!)
Here is a layout of what we have planned so far:
Thursday, April 11 @ at 7pm – Extension Office (go on the door behind the Flag Pole)
- Different classes at the fair and their requirements/what they will be judged on
- Dates
- What to feed your poultry
- Space requirements
Thursday, May 23 @ 7 pm – Extension Office (go on the door behind the Flag Pole)
- Biosecurity/predators, poultry diseases, and first aid.
Thursday, June 27 @ 7pm – Extension Office (go on the door behind the Flag Pole)
- Trivia night! This will be a fun night where we will make a fun game out of poultry trivia and go over questions the judge may ask you about your birds
Thursday, July 25 @ 7pm – Extension Office
- Mandatory Pullorum testing (for mixed flocks)
- Showmanship Clinic-how to prepare and show your birds at the fair
Feel free to request any additional topics you might want to know about! Additionally, we have created a Facebook page for poultry communication for Defiance County members! Please feel free to join! https://www.facebook.com/groups/207562738949025/
We are excited about our mini-clinics and hope to see you there!
