From June 11-14, 2025, students who have completed 8th or 9th grade by the end of the 2024-2025 school year are invited to explore exciting career pathways, engage in hands-on learning experiences, and discover new passions at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. This immersive experience connects youth with industry professionals, faculty, and peers to spark their interests and inspire future career goals.

Junior Camp – Shooting Sports

Registration for Ohio 4-H Junior Shooting Sports Camp is open now!
Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports has opened Junior Camp registration. Youth in grades 3-6 are invited to Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp from June 13 to 15 for education sessions on basic shooting and archery disciplines. Additional information about the camp can be found on the Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports website. Registration is open through May 16 and can be completed online. Camp counselors are also encouraged to apply and should do so before May 1.

New and returning 4-H members have until March 30, 2025 to register and select projects through 4-H Online.  We ask that you register as soon as possible in order to help with communication.  You can register by visiting oh.4honline.com.

Winning 4-H Plan Request Form
This is an accommodation plan for 4-H members with any type of disability taking 4-H Project.

Ohio 4-H membership is based on a child’s age AND grade as of January 1 of the current calendar year. Eligibility for Cloverbud participation begins when a child is age 5 and enrolled in kindergarten. Eligibility for participation in 4-H projects and competitive events begins when a child is age 8 and in third grade. Any youth age 9 or above is eligible for project membership, regardless of grade level. A youth’s 4-H eligibility ends December 31 the year he/she turns 19.

Change in Age of Market Ducks and Geese

Poultry Changes for 2025
• Max weight for Market Chicken Broiler class is 16 lbs.
• Pullet class definition: any female under a year
• Laying Hen definition: any female over a year
•Market Ducks and Geese: Required Mandatory Age: Must be between 18-20 weeks. Hatch dates between March 30 and April 13. Proof of purchase is required.
• Mandatory Market Chicken Bulk Order will remain for 2025. Zeedyk Poultry & Waterfowl will sponsor 4 chicks for each exhibitor.

 

HPAI Avian Influenza
The Defiance County Fair Livestock Committee met on Feb., 18, 2025. The Committee is keeping any eye on the current HPAI Avian Influenza and will continue to monitor the situation. The Committee has determined that currently it is too early to cancel the Junior Fair Poultry Show. Exhibitors are encouraged to use biosecurity practices to limit the spread of HPAI. Exhibitors may also want to consider adding a backup livestock project by May 1st. Families may drop the backup project at any time prior to skillathon. If 4-H enrollment has been completed for 2025, families will need to contact the Ext. Office to add a project.
