2024 Shelby County Swine Breeders Association Scholarship

Sponsored by the Shelby County Swine Breeders Association & The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Sidney

What: The Shelby County Swine Breeders will be awarding two scholarships this year. (A $1,000 scholarship & a $500 scholarship).

Who: Applicants must

  • show in the 2024 Shelby County Born & Raised Show
  • be in the Senior Division, Ages 15-18 (as of January 1st of the current year)
  • provide proof of first semester of college or trade school completion before the scholarship is paid out

When: The completed application (including the necessary signatures) must be emailed or postmarked no later than June 1st

4-H STEM Camp at Canter’s Cave

Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp presents….. Exploring STEM at Camp!

What: 4-H STEM Camp focuses on the topics of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in ways that are unique and fun. Youth will explore the outdoors and learn about the science of the world around them through interactive sessions. Campers will enjoy traditional camp activities with a STEM twist!

When:  June 10-12th, 2024

Who: Open to youth in grades 5-7th

Cost: $100

Where: Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp (1362 Caves Rd. Jackson, OH 45640)

What is it: Join Michigan 4-H and Michigan State University Extension as we celebrate the spirit of growth, learning and community fostered by Michigan 4-H!

When and Where: April 28th at Comerica Park

  • A dual-branded 4-H and Detroit Tigers hat (Limited quantity!)
  • Exclusive pre-game on-field opportunity (Timing and logistics will be released to eligible participants within a month of the game date)

Darke County Poultry Clinic

Sponsored by the Darke County Junior Fair Poultry Committee

When: April 13th, 10 AM to 12 PM

Where: Ohio Building at the Darke County Fairgrounds

Who: Open to Junior Fair Poultry exhibitors from surrounding counties

What: This clinic is a great opportunity to expand knowledge of poultry projects and get prepared for upcoming fairs! Lunch will be provided at the conclusion of the clinic (sponsored by Copper Farms). Clinic topics include:

  • Quality and Selection: hosted by Lewis Cunningham, 2024 Darke County Fancy Poultry Show Judge
  • Pidgeons: hosted by Jackson Hile
  • Biosecurity, Animal Ethics, and Proper Animal Care: hosted by Dr. Tim Barman, retired Cooper Farms veterinarian
  • Poultry Nutrition: hosted by Matt Aultman
  • Poultry Showmanship: hosted by Blake Addis, Darke County Junior Fair Board Poultry Representative

New for 2024: Show Clothes Closet!

The Shelby County Junior Fair Board is excited to introduce the Show Clothes Closet! Junior Fair families can spend a lot of money buying new show clothes and boots each year as their children grow each year. To help one another out, we are currently accepting donations to stock the Show Clothes Closet. Donations can be accepted at the Extension Office during our regular business hours (M-F 8:30 AM- 4:30 PM) or dropped off at any of the Quality Assurance programs!

Items Needed (gently used condition, no holes/tears):

  • Jeans (Boot cut preferred)
  • Button down shirts
  • Belts
  • White jackets & white pants
  • Boots
