Dr. Adrian Rodgers, the executive director of the US – Indonesian Teacher Education Consortium (USINTEC), is traveling in Indonesia on a months-long trip across the region.
Dr. Rodgers’s first met with Universitas Negeri Yogjakarta (UNY) on June 25, 2013. Retna Hidayah from the University office of International Cooperation arranged for his meetings with Vice Rector for Affairs & Cooperation, Vice Director of Graduate School, Head of International Office, and with UNY doctoral students.
On June 26 Dr. Rodgers flew to Sumatra for a day-long visit to Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED). He met Dr. Berlin Sibarani, vice rector 4 who is in charge of the office of International Affairs and Cooperation at the university.
Padang was Dr. Rodgers’ next stop. While there he co-chaired the USINTEC biannual meeting, on June 28, that was organized by Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP). He also met with leaders at UNP to discuss further about offering a dual master degree program in sport education. Dr. Rodgers met colleagues at UNP including Dr. Ardipal, a Vice Rector for Cooperation and Assets Affairs, and Dr. Syahrial Bachtiar, a Vice Rector for Student Affairs.
Dr. Rodgers’ following stop was to the island of Sulawesi, where in the next five days he met colleagues at Universitas Negeri Manado (UNIMA), Universitas Negeri Gorontalo (UNG), and Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM).
In UNIMA, Dr. Rodgers met Dr. Nihta Liando, who had arranged a meeting with the school deans at UNIMA on July 2-3, 2013.
He flew to Gorontalo where he was greeted by Tryanti Abdurrahman from UNG Language and Cultural Center. Ms. Tryanti (Tia) had coordinated meetings with the rector, vice rectors, and students at the university on July 4-5, 2013. Tia is also an OSU alumni (MA, 2011).
Dr. Rodgers visit to Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM) concluded his trip in Sulawesi. While in Makassar, he met Dr. Nurdin Noni and Dr. Eko Hadi Sujiono, Vice Rector for Development and Cooperation Affairs on July 5-6, 2013. Dr. Rodgers also had a chance for a small reunion with Ms. Widya Kamila, a former advisee from a 2011 doctoral sandwich program at The Ohio State University.
In addition to attending the USINTEC biannual meeting in Padang, Dr. Adrian Rodgers visit to Indonesia and to Indonesian university partners provided an opportunity to 1) Meet individually with the USINTEC coordinator at the Indonesian university to learn more about their institution and the issues they face there. 2) Meet with others that the USINTEC coordinator would like him to meet, and have an opportunity to sort through questions. 3) Meet with some potential students, either dual degree or doctoral sandwich students, and 4) Have a chance to get better acquainted.
