About the 2024 Seminar:
This online summer seminar will inform K-14 educators about the UN’s Sustainability Goals, specifically focusing on issues surrounding poverty and food insecurity in the regions of Africa, East Asia, Eastern Europe/Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The seminar will start by giving participants a solid foundation in the relevant agricultural, political, social, and historical theories and practices to build their understanding of issues surrounding these topics from a global perspective. Throughout the seminar, participants will hear from guest experts who will present regional case studies to provide comparative views of what prominent challenges and issues in their respective region are and what has been or is currently being done to help alleviate these matters.
Benefits:
Teachers will receive a certificate of completion with 20 contact hours and 2 CEUs after completing all aspects (orientation, summer seminar and follow up), and a $100 stipend for completing a lesson plan by Friday, August 9, 2024. The seminar is open to both pre-service and in-service teachers and is free of charge.
The seminar is organized by the Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (CSEEES), in partnership with the Center for African Studies (CAS), Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS), East Asian Studies Center (EASC), and the Middle East Studies Center (MESC), with support from the U.S. Department of Education Title VI Grants.
