4-H Camp Palmer Shooting Sports Instructor Workshop

The 2023 4-H Shooting Sports Camp Palmer Instructor Workshop Registration is now live. Please go to http://go.osu.edu/23SSPalmer to register. This workshop will be held at 4-H Camp Palmer, located in Northwester Ohio, October 20-22. The cost is $110. The workshop is open to any approved 4-H volunteer who would like to get certified as a Shooting Sports discipline instructor. Instructors must be age 21 by the time of the training and be an approved 4-H Volunteer in their county program.  Please talk to your county 4-H Educator to let them know you are planning to register. Volunteers should also talk to their county/club Shooting Sports Coordinator to determine the needs of their county/club program before registering. This workshop will offer: Archery, Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol, Living History, and Muzzleloader. Assistant Instructors are also welcome to register for this workshop. Assistant Instructors are individuals who have aged out of 4-H (age 19-20) but who have not reached age 21. These individuals will receive an Assistant Instructor certificate allowing them to teach under the direct supervision of a level one Shooting sports Instructor. Upon reaching the age of 21 they can apply to have their certificate changed to a certification as long as they have had continuous service as a 4-H Volunteer in the shooting sports program.

 

Due to limited classroom space Junior Leaders will not be accepted at this workshop.   

 

Just a few reminders and helpful tips

  • The deadline to register is October 1, 2023.
  • Please choose your discipline wisely. We are not able to shuffle participant around easily after the deadline due to our timeline to order curriculum materials and get our class rosters set.
  • Cancelations after the October 1 deadline will NOT receive a refund and these funds CAN NOT be carried forward. We can apply them to another volunteer who is willing to take the same discipline.
  • Payment may be made with check or credit card. If your county office is paying for you to attend please contact them before registering to see how they would like to handle payments. We are able to do fund transfers from counties.
  • Discipline classes must meet the minimum requirements for us to offer a class. If your class is NOT offered, we will move you to your second choice. Please be sure to select two different choices during the registration process.
  • Health forms for this workshop are online. Upon completion of your registration you will be sent a link to complete your health form. All participants MUST complete a health form to attend.
  • If you have not taken the online National Shooting Sports Module courses you will need to complete those courses before you attend the workshop. Contact Tracy Winters at winters.5@osu.edu for more information on how to complete these modules. If you have taken these in the past you DO NOT have to take them again.
  • Additional information about the workshop will be emailed out AFTER the October 1 deadline. This information will be sent to the email you register with, please use an email address you check often. Please also double check that your email is correct in your registration.

Skillathon Results to be Announced at Respective Shows

All SKILLATHON Results will be announced at their respective species show conclusions just prior to the announcement of OME/OSE winners. Placings will then be posted for viewing in barns upon show conclusion.

 

If you participated in a species skillathon, please plan to be present for recognition and participation in the awards ceremony.

2023 Fulton County Fair Information

We are excited for the upcoming Fulton County Fair! Here are a few “things” you need to know about arriving at the Fulton County Fair this year!

Pre-Fair Information

  • Fair Checklist
    • We have created a checklist for your family to review prior to coming to the Fair – be sure to check it out as you begin to pack!
  • ALL MARKET PROJECTS & LACTATING DAIRY ANIMALS
    • Complete your DUNF Form (open online August 21-30) PRIOR TO hauling into the fair– this will make the check-in process MUCH smoother!
    • Be sure to PRINT OFF a copy of your DUNF form & bring it with you at check in – You will receive a confirmation email with your “Response Report” which will makes it easy to print off.

The 2023 4-H Shooting Sports Fall Instructor Workshop Registration is now live. Please go to http://go.osu.edu/2023FallWorkshopCanters to register. This workshop will be held at Canter’s Cave 4-H camp, located outside of Jackson Ohio, September 15-17. The cost is $110. The workshop is open to any approved 4-H volunteer who would like to get certified as a Shooting Sports discipline instructor. Instructors must be age 21 by the time of the training and be an approved 4-H Volunteer in their county program.  Please talk to your county 4-H Educator to let them know you are planning to register. Volunteers should also talk to their county/club Shooting Sports Coordinator to determine the needs of their county/club program before registering. This workshop will offer all of the basic disciplines: Archery, Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol, Living History, Hunting and Wildlife as well as the advanced disciplines including Muzzleloader and Crossbow. We will also be offering Living History Level 2 training opportunity, which is a train the trainer level 2 program for Ohio. Ohio State Beekeepers Association Youth Scholarship Program Applications Now Available

Ohio State Beekeepers Association supports new young beekeepers through our Youth Scholarship Program. We realize that the success of a new beekeeper is not reliant on the student’s work and money alone but on the partnership’s effort. Thus, the Youth Scholarship Program encourages the participation of the parents/guardians, 4-H/FFA Ohio advisers, local Ohio associations, and mentors.

The number of scholarships available per year will vary based on the number of available funds and donations. The number will be posted each year on the OSBA website. For 2024 there will be 10 scholarships available: 5 designated for 4-H and 5 designated for FFA.

Selection Criteria

  1. Students must be between the ages of 12 and 18 by January 1st of the scholarship year (2024), be a member of 4-H / FFA, and be enrolled in public, private, or home school.
  2. The applicants must complete and return the application by Saturday, September 16th, 2023.

Selection Process

  1. The selection committee will carefully consider each candidate and select the finalists on the completion of their application.
  2. The OSBA Youth Scholarship winners will be announced on Saturday, October 7th, 2023.

The selected Partnership Program Scholars will receive:

  1. Woodenware and tools for two hives (see attached document)
  2. 1 – year free membership to the OSBA, with an electronic newsletter
  3. 1 – year subscription to American Bee Journal
  4. 1 – year subscription to Bee Culture
  5. Free attendance at the OSBA Fall Convention (including 2 guests)
