**Paprika Retired on November 1st, 2021**
Nickname: Paprika
Our 400MHz Oxford NMR magnet (Paprika) had been showing signs of age for over a year with cold spots and cryo-pumping during helium fills, and ice blocks in the nitrogen cavity. On November 1st, 2021, a severe vacuum leak was detected on Paprika in the form of icing around the bore and elevated helium boil off. After monitoring and consulting with magnet experts, it was determined by the NMR staff and the CBC department that Paprika should be forcibly quenched on November 19th, 2021.
Drs. Whitmer & Conroy performed the quench by first removing the upper helium assembly and removing exhaust tubing from nitrogen outlets. The seal on the vacuum port was then broken and the room was evacuated. Once the vacuum insulation was lost, the helium and nitrogen cavity rapidly warmed and boiled off. The magnet coils lost their superconducting property and their current was quickly dissipated in the form of heat.
Thank you for all the spectra Paprika!
