Hello Australopithecus sediba!

Mark and Heather show off the sediba castWith the help of the OSU Office of Distance Education and eLearning, and the OSU Art Department, we just 3D printed our first pilot cast for our Columbus City Schools outreach program! This mini cast is a scaled down version of the MH1 fossil, a juvenile australopithecus sediba. MH1 is thought to have been 12-13 years old at time of death. It was the first specimen of Au. sediba found at Malapa cave in South Africa, and its unusual mosaic of features (some more similar to early ancestors in the Australopithecus genus, others more like those seen in the Homo genus) are helping anthropologists piece together the story of our evolution! Stay tuned. There are more casts to come!
