The 4-H Legacy Dinner; In spirit only this year

This evening, on the eve of what could have and should have been the 11th Annual Fairfield County 4-H Endowment’s Legacy Dinner most of us are at home eating what Dennis the Menace calls “groceries again!” Everyone on the Endowment Board and our 300 guests always look forward to sharing this fun evening of good food and good friends to raise funds to continue the legacy and tradition of the 4-H Program.

This year it is different, there is no Legacy Dinner due to COVID-19 and the Endowment Board decided in mid-April to cancel the Dinner. The Board knew there was absolutely no way to adequately have social distancing measures in place. But over the year’s what fun we have had!!!

In 2020, due to the pandemic the Endowment Board met virtually and decided a new initiative was in order. A one-time ask for donations to help cover the cost of County-Wide Dues for every member of the Fairfield County 4-H program. Our goal was $5,000.00 for 1,000 youth in the 4-H program. Today, on the eve of what would have been the June 11, 2020 Legacy Dinner we have not only reached but exceeded the goal!! Thank you to all of those who have donated to help us reach the goal of paying 4-H dues for our 4-H youth. Thank you for believing what every member of the Endowment Board believes..in the end, it is really all about the kids!!

If you would like to donate, the donations received in excessive of the $5,000 amount needed will be used for County Wide Dues for 4-H Clubs in 2021. You can send your donation directly: Fairfield County 4-H Endowment  P.O. Box 564, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or contact any of our Board members for more information.

The 4-H Legacy ‘Giving Tree’

The ‘Giving Tree’ offers another alternative for folks to give back to 4-H. In this brief video, Sherry Kilbarger explains how money, up to a total of $1000, donated to the Fairfield County 4-H Endowment through the ‘Giving Tree’ will be matched by Ohio State, thus, doubling the value of your donation.

Why Do These Local Businessmen Choose to ‘Give Back?’

Have you ever wondered why a couple of local businessmen might feel it important to find a way to give back to their 4-H roots? Connie visits with Fairfield County 4-H alums Ron Ruff and Steve Eversole and explores why they take time each year to participate in the activities of the 4-H Endowment Board, and the annual Legacy Dinner and Auction.

4-H Endowment is THANKFUL for YOUR Support

This past year the Fairfield County 4-H Endowment board has been extremely busy. First, our annual fund raising effort was held in mid-June at the Miller Farm Shop near Pleasantville. With nearly 300 individuals in attendance, we were able to raise over $20,000 for the 4-H Endowment funds. Those funds will ultimately help to sponsor trips, educational events and purchase program supplies for youth currently enrolled in the Fairfield County 4-H program.

Fast forward to Sunday, October 7, 2018 and the 4-H Endowment board gathered again to help kick off the Fairfield County Fair with a pancake flippin’ good time awareness Breakfast. Again, nearly 300 early morning 4-H members, parents and friends enjoyed the donation breakfast. It has become a tradition and a great way to start the Fairfield County Fair.

During the 4-H Panorama, the 4-H Endowment board presented a check for over Continue reading 4-H Endowment is THANKFUL for YOUR Support

Thinking about “Giving Back” in the New Year

We are just days away from ringing in 2018 and for many of us that typically means a resolution or two.  But, what about making a resolution to “give back” some of your time, talent or resources?  Did you ever think about some of your fondest childhood memories or perhaps memories made together as family? Are you in a place in your life to give back to those organizations or charities that helped you become the person you are today?

One of my best friends always tells me her ability to set a table, or put together a Continue reading Thinking about “Giving Back” in the New Year

New Years Greetings from the 4-H Endowment Board

In early 2000, a small group of community leaders who also happened to be former 4-H members began collecting ideas and thoughts to establish a Fairfield County 4-H Endowment fund. Their objective was to be sure funds where available in the future that could compliment the Fairfield County 4-H Youth Development program when they were needed.

The first goal was to raise $25,000 in order to establish an Endowment fund at the Ohio State University. After that goal was accomplished Continue reading New Years Greetings from the 4-H Endowment Board

Fairfield County 2016 Outstanding 4-H award winners

This week at the 2016 Fairfield County Fair many 4-H and FFA students are concluding a year of work with a variety of projects. For my family, it has been a week of roller coaster of emotions, our first grandchild with a steer project and our son’s completing his 10 year 4-H career with market steers bred, born and raised on our farm.  Am I proud? You bet!!

But as I’ve watched Continue reading Why Would We Leave a Legacy?
