Exercise 03 – Creative Design Thinking

The objective of this exercise was to learn two techniques of creative design thinking, become creative, learn the basics of orthographic drawings, and brainstorm AEV Concept Sketches.

Progress Report Questions/Deliverables:

The main idea behind the Swept Wing AEV Concept is using minimal supplies while maximizing efficiency. The Arduino Board and the battery balance each other out across the hanging arm, reducing instability. By using less material, it is easier to accelerate and decelerate the AEV. The swept wing should decrease the overall drag of the AEV.

The main goal of AEV Concept 1 was to keep it simple and find a way to make the vehicle more aerodynamic. By making the front of the vehicle pointed, the aerodynamic aspect increased dramatically. By balancing the battery and the arduino board toward the front of the AEV gave it a higher chance of staying level and reduced the potential risk of falling off of the track.

The reasoning behind Concept Sketch was make it with efficient power and to limit size and air resistance. It is somewhat symmetrical from front to back in order for the AEV to be just as efficient when it has to travel backwards. Having a simpler design can also accelerate it quicker because of the small amount of weight the AEV would have.
