Holiday shopping is easy in our 4-H library! Project books make great gift ideas, and it is never too early to start thinking about the new 4-H year!

The 4-H program is excited to bring back the popular “4-H Holiday Craft Workshop” again this year!  The 4-H Leadership Board will host this all-time favorite event for 4-H members in 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grades.  Participants will make numerous items that can be given as gifts to mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles or simply someone special for the holidays!  There will be a $12.00 fee for the workshop, which will cover the cost of materials, door prizes, and refreshments.  Complete the registration form posted on our website and return it to the Extension Office along with your $12.00 fee no later than Monday, December 2.  Participation is on a first come, first serve basis so sign up early so you have a spot! In the event of inclement weather, we will send out email notices and post any announcements on our Facebook page – Wood County Ohio 4-H.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jenny at the Extension Office – 419-354-9050.

2020 4-H Teen Opportunities Awards and Scholarships

Ohio Teen Leadership Council
TLC is a statewide group of 4-H teens and young 4-H alumni that provides a youth stakeholder perspective in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Ohio 4-H programming.  In the process, council members develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and aspirations needed for future success.  For information on how to apply for the Ohio Teen Leadership Council visit:  https://ohio4h.org/families/just-teens/teen-leadership-council

4-H College Scholarship Information
Several College Scholarships worth up to $1,500 each are available to 4-H members who will be a freshman at Ohio State University or Ohio’s many technical Colleges or Universities next year.
4-H members who are currently seniors in high school or above should apply (Collegiate Level Scholarships are available).  For the online applications go to:

State Achievement Awards
4-H Awards are available to all 4-H members. Awards are based on a 4-H member’s achievement in a specific area. The award includes a trip to the National 4-H Congress held in Atlanta, GA. Areas include: Beef, Citizenship & Community Service, Clothing & Textiles, Dairy, Dairy Goat, Leadership, Environmental Sciences, Personal Development, Sheep, Swine, Rabbits, and Poultry. To be considered for a 4-H Achievement Award, one must complete an Ohio 4-H Achievement Record form and submit it to the Extension Office.  For Achievement application visit: https://ohio4h.org/awardsandscholarships

4-H Honor Court
The Wood County 4-H Committee will again sponsor a scholarship program to recognize outstanding achievement of 4-H members age 16 and older. This program will honor eight individuals, the top two 4-H’ers will each receive a $750 scholarship and the remaining six individuals will each be awarded a $250 scholarship. Buckeye Leadership Workshop
March 25 – 29, 2020 – Recreation Unlimited
Partial scholarships will be awarded to older 4-H members at least 16 years of age, and adult volunteers. Buckeye Leadership Workshop, held annually at Recreation Unlimited, provides sessions that strengthen participant’s leadership skills with a recreation setting. Sessions include: Dance and Games, Leadership, Team Challenge, Camp Skills, Song Leading, Photography, Quilting & Crafts and Outdoor Adventure. Ohio 4-H Conference
The 2020 Ohio 4-H Conference will take place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center on Saturday, March 14. This event is designed to bring together 4-H volunteers and teens from across the State of Ohio. The objective of this event is to learn together and from each other in order to improve our abilities to deliver the Ohio 4-H Program to its members. We truly believe that these educational selections offer something for everyone and can satisfy every taste and need. Nearly 150 sessions will be available to choose from!
Who: All Ohio 4-H Teens & Volunteers are welcome to attend.

Citizenship-Washington Focus
June 21 – 27, 2020 – National 4-H Center, Washington, D.C.
Two or more members will enjoy an exciting, innovative approach to citizenship education. Citizenship-Washington Focus will bring participants to the National 4-H Center for a week long experience in our Nation’s Capital. Workshops will reinforce the importance of government issues, develop a new perspective of international relations and stress personal growth and leadership skills. Delegates must be at least 16 years of age, currently enrolled in 4-H, and have completed at least one year of 4-H Club work. Leadership Washington Focus
July 27-31, 2020 – National 4-H Center, Washington, D.C.
*MUST be entering the 7^th, 8^th or 9^th grade in the Fall of 2020*
Leadership Washington Focus (LWF) is a 4-H Leadership program for youth entering grades 7th through 9th. The program will take place at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center, just 1 mile from the Washington, D.C. border. For more than 50 years, thousands of 4-H’ers have participated in our high school program, Citizenship Washington Focus and now we are happy to introduce its precursor for middle school 4-H’ers. Interviews will be February 20, beginning at 5:30 pm.
4-H delegates will:
-Practice effective communication with others through group discussion and public speaking.
-Develop an understanding of their own personal leadership.
-Exchange ideas, and form friendships with other 4-H’ers form across the nation.
-Experience hands-on learning using the historical backdrop of Washington, D.C.

State Leadership Camp
June 1 – 5, 2020 – 4-H Camp Ohio
Four members who are outstanding in leadership and 4-H activities are selected each year. You will have the opportunity to meet with Ohio 4-H’ers and plan and participate in sessions developing your leadership skills. Recipients must be a minimum of 15 years of age, currently enrolled in 4-H, and have completed at least one year of 4-H.

Ohio 4-H Sea Camp
July 11-15, 2020
Ohio 4-H Sea Camp is back, and invites teens ages 15-17 (as of January 1, 2020) from across Ohio to “get your feet wet” as you learn about one of Ohio’s most important resources:  Lake Erie!  You’ll be in, on, and around the water as you explore the science of the lake.  Participants will also learn marine related skills and discover the history and recreational uses of our great lake.
