Pre-Collegiate
- BioEYES– a K-12 science education program that provides classroom-based learning opportunities through the use of live zebrafish. The program is designed to foster enthusiasm for science by giving students opportunities to explore science by watching life develop firsthand. - Data Science for Women Summer Camp – A free summer camp for young women in grades 8-10 to explore data science and analytics. They spend time each day highlighting where data comes from / how it can be used, learning from experts in the field, working in small groups to give you hands-on experience with data analysis, and spending time discussing gender and racial biases in data.
- Pre First-Year Academic and Career Engagement (PREFACE) Program – A multi-level program designed to develop pre-first-year students into high-performing students who are confident, efficient, and results-driven engineers. Contact: Dr. Ronald Parker
Undergraduate
- Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) – Program to help increase underrepresented student success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
- Engineering Student Academic Success- This unit supports the College of Engineering’s strategic goal to deliver the highest quality, evidence-based education experiences in a diverse and inclusive community accessible at all student levels. Staff connects students with opportunities to support their academic and personal pursuits and create programs and activities that increase self-efficacy and foster community while assuring that all engineering students understand diversity, equity, and inclusion as a prerequisite for excellence in an increasingly global society.
- ASPIRE Medical Research Program– The program’s mission is to support undergraduate students who have been historically underrepresented and historically excluded from the health sciences with mentorship, research experience in world-class laboratories, and personal and academic support to prepare them for advanced education and careers as health care providers. Ultimately, we envision that our scholars will be considered undeniably competitive during the post-undergraduate portion of their training career.
- SACNAS/ABRCMS Bound Buckeyes – The Undergraduate Research Office and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion have joined forces with the SACNAS Chapter at Ohio State to offer undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds the opportunity to attend the SACNAS and ABRCMS National Conferences during Fall Semester. Students must be currently conducting research in STEM fields (including social and behavioral sciences).
- Community College Research Program – 1-year program by the Center for Emergent Materials (CEM) where students can be involved in a wide range of research projects.
- Destination Ohio State University (DOSU) Bridge Program –The Destination Ohio State University (DOSU) program pairs incoming and prospective undergraduate transfer students from Columbus State Community College with postdoctoral scholars* at Ohio State who are participating in the Researcher, Mentor, Teacher (RMT) program.
- Polaris – Polaris is an undergraduate mentorship program that strives to improve aggregate retention of underrepresented students in the Department of Physics and the Department of Astronomy. It is a partnership between undergraduate and graduate physics and astronomy students who are dedicated to fostering a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible undergraduate experience.
- Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) – The Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at Ohio State is designed to help historically underrepresented students explore opportunities for graduate study and academic careers.
- Panama: Through the Lens of Agriculture, Sustainability and Diversity – The animal Sciences faculty member, Dr. Lyda Garcia, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) are collaborating to offer Panama: Through the Lens of AgriCulture, Sustainability, and Diversity, an education abroad program in Panama City and Bocete, Panama.
- Mentoring Undergraduate Scholars for Excellence (MUSE) – MUSE is an undergraduate mentorship program for URM chemistry and biochemistry majors to support incoming undergrads and help upper-level students get leadership and mentoring experience.
- Diversity, Equity & Inclusion 365 – As the College of Engineering’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts continue growing join them the last Friday of each month at noon from October to May as they explore various DEI topics for continuous education and courageous conversations to create an environment where all Buckeyes can thrive.
- Inclusive Excellence Certificate – The College of Engineering wants to help their students, faculty and staff integrate diversity and inclusion principles and practices into their work by encouraging diversity learning opportunities through certification programs.
Post-Baccalaureate & Graduate
- Discovery Prep Program – PREP is a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded program that provides an intense research experience in outstanding research facilities with leading investigators at The Ohio State University.
- Physics Bridge Program -The MS to PhD Bridge program at OSU strives to enhance the diversity of qualified applicants to physics PhD programs. The Bridge program is a two-year program for students with a bachelor’s degree in Physics, or a closely related field, who are motivated to pursue a PhD, but require additional course work, training, and research experience to excel in a PhD program.
- Discovery Scholars Program – A funding opportunity that aims to increase the diversity of our graduate student body. This program provides funding for students admitted from the GEM database to the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Engineering MS or PhD programs.
- GWIS Empower – Graduate Women in Science – National organization with the purpose of building a global community to inspire, support, recognize and empower women in science by connecting, leading and empowering women scientists to excel in their careers.
- Being Human in STEM – For students and faculty – An initiative that aims to foster a more inclusive, supportive STEM community by helping students, faculty, and staff collaboratively develop a framework to understand and navigate diverse identities in the classroom, lab, and beyond.
- Arts and Sciences Graduate Diversity Services – The Office of Recruitment and Diversity Services within Arts and Sciences works in partnership with departments, research centers and other campus units to ensure a supportive and thriving intellectual environment for diverse populations of students as they pursue advanced degrees.
- Graduate and Professional Student Recruitment Initiative (GPS) -For students considering graduate studies at The Ohio State University, the Graduate/Professional Students Recruitment Initiative (GPS) serves as the premier diversity recruitment program. GPS plays an integral role in contributing to the ethnic, cultural and academic diversity within Ohio State’s Graduate School and Professional College programs.
- Chemistry Bridge Program – An emerging partnership between the Ohio State Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the American Chemical Society to provide strong mentorship to chemistry and biochemistry graduate students from underrepresented backgrounds

Post-Doctoral
- Big Ten Alliance Professoriate Advancement Initiative – The Professorial Advancement Initiative (PAI) is an NSF-funded project with the goal to double the rate at which Big Ten Academic Alliance institutions hire underrepresented minority (URM) faculty in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
- National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) – A nationwide consortium of biomedical professionals and institutions collaborating to provide all trainees across the biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social sciences with evidence-based mentorship and professional development programming that emphasizes the benefits and challenges of diversity, inclusivity and culture within mentoring relationships, and more broadly the research workforce.

- Advocates & Allies for Equity initiative (AAIC) – AAIC is composed of faculty and staff who want to further gender and minority equity at Ohio State.
- Ohio State ADVANCE – to help increase the representation, advancement and recruitment of women faculty in the academic STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers, and contribute to the development and success of global research leaders.
- Women in STEMM Resources – Composed of The President and Provost’s Council on Women (PPCW), Women’s Place, and The White House Collaborative on Equity in Research on Women and Girls of Color work together to identify gender inequities and implement strategies to improve Women in STEMM.
- Ohio State Mentoring Training – This NIH funded program allows participants from the Big Ten Academic Alliance institutions to learn evidence-based approaches to mentor training and gain the knowledge, confidence, and facilitation skills needed to implement training and customize an implementation plan for their own campus.

SciAccess Conference – SciAccess is thrilled to announce that our 2021 conference will take place virtually on November 12 and 13. The conference aims to connect university researchers, professors, students, K-12 science teachers, disability rights advocates, astronomers, scientists with disabilities, special education teachers, informal science educators, and anyone with interests that lie at the intersection of science and the need to provide equal access to it.
