Safe Zone Training

Safe Zone participants sit at round tables in the Reese Center ballroom and have small-group discussions.

Small-group discussions gave participants opportunities to discuss how they can help LGBTQIA+ individuals feel safe and included on campus.

The LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group and OSU-N/COTC Office of Human Resources proudly co-sponsored a Safe Zone training for faculty & staff on 1/31/20 from 9AM – 12PM at the Reese Center.  Forty faculty & staff members were in attendance representing 14 campus offices/departments, 4 academic units, and 2 COTC campuses.

Special guests Dr. Bill MacDonald and Dr. John Berry kicked off the event and shared their support for LGBTQIA+ inclusion on our campuses.

The student organization Pride OutLoud was represented by President Sage Anderson, and we were thrilled to have Jeff Perkins from the MultiCultural Center at OSU-Columbus facilitate the training.

With such a fabulous turnout and several individuals already on the reservation list for the next training, the ERG is already in the planning stages for a yearly (or bi-yearly) training, and a train-the-trainer event.  For more information on Safe Zone trainings offered by Ohio State, click here.
