Prospective Graduate Students & Postdocs:
Fall 2025 PhD Recruitment Process: Dr. Pasque/I welcome incoming PhD student applicants interested in working with me as advisees to express interest in GRA positions with QualLab (potential opening in autumn 2024) and the Review of Higher Education (opening in 2025, with potential fellowship for fall ’24) in their statement. Information on the HESA PhD program and information sessions is here. Any GRA position is contingent on acceptance to EHE PhD programs. For more information on the PhD program & application process see here.
- Application Process
- For prospective master’s and doctoral students interested in the Higher Education & Student Affairs program at Ohio State, please visit this page from the Department of Educational Studies to learn more about the application process.
- Please mention your interest in working with me in your statement of interest.
- Funding
- I am privileged to support Graduate Research Associates through my Review of Higher Education editorial position, and grants & contracts, including QualLab (i.e., collaborations with Wexner Medical Center, Academic Affairs).
- QualLab GRAs are advanced graduate students interested in qualitative methodologies and methods. I preference advisees and also work with interns and undergraduates. Check out the website for current postings.
- If you are not an advisee & interested in the Ohio State Dean’s Diversity Postdoc Fellowship or the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow position as connected with the QualLab and meet their qualifications, please contact me.
Current Graduate Students:
Funding across campus is complex. Thanks to Dr. Chelsea Pratt (former PhD candidate & GRA) who helped me create this page as a way to share resources for students. If you have updated info, please let me know.
- Dissertation & PostDoc Fellowships
- Research Funding
- EHE’s Travel Site (for all three departments) and funding opportunities is here & was updated in 2023.
- Other Financial Resources
- Ohio State has a new portal called Scholarship Universe where you can “Apply for hundreds of Ohio State special-eligibility scholarships and external scholarships with a wide variety of eligibility criteria.”
- Graduate Associates can email HR-GradPayHelp@osu.edu for questions or concerns about pay.
- Students in need of emergency aid can consult the Student Advocacy Center, who work with the Office of Student Financial Aid the Student Emergency Fund (of which resources are available to graduate students). A faculty member can also write on your behalf to request emergency funds via EHE. Talk with your faculty advisor if you’re interested in this.
- If you have experienced a financial hardship, you may be eligible to apply for a Together as Buckeyes emergency grant. Students are encouraged to contact BuckeyeLink before submitting the grant application for guidance on submitting a successful application to see if the program is continuing & at what level. The BuckeyeLink staff can be contacted via email at buckeyelink@osu.edu or by calling 614-292-0300.
- The ACES food pantry in the PAES A100 suite is available to all Ohio State students. Students can stop by and take five items and a personal hygiene kit Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
- As an OSU student, you may also access the Buckeye Food Alliance pantry, which is currently operating via online ordering.
- Ohio State students can also get a compost bin & more – Ohio State’s goal is 90% waste away from landfills!
- For professional development funding, including travel for conference presentations, visit the Council of Graduate Students.
- The Office of Research, Innovation, and Collaboration (ORIC) also offers a matching travel grant program here.
- The College of Education & Human Ecology also supports students who are presenting research at professional conferences; learn more here.
- International Graduate Students have grant opportunities here.
- Always seek program support as well as they may have grants provided by our Ohio State Alums. You’re always a part of the Ohio State family!
- Research, Writing and Support Services
- The College of Education & Human Ecology’s QualLab – I may be the director but also recommend 1-1 consultations for research papers, dissertation research designs (anything except coursework). Also see the Dashboard of Resources!
- The Center for the Study of Writing & Teaching is here to support your needs inside and outside the classroom.
- Walter E. Dennis Learning Center provides academic learning services and support to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students from all academic backgrounds that enables them to enter, excel in, and complete postsecondary education programs.
- Heartful Editor is a collective of 50 dissertation coaches and editors who provide caring and encouraging academic writing coaching and editing support to thousands of scholars each year as they complete course papers, theses, dissertations, and manuscripts for publication!
- iThenticate is available through the office of misconduct as a tool to “avoid plagiarism”. I often use it as a teaching/learning tool in classes and research projects.
- APA Style Experts – where you can talk directly with the experts.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) programs such as Grammarly provide editorial help for your writing. GPTChat is also a resource but like any writing tool or qualitative software tools, they cannot replace your intellect and depth of thought, such as the unique connections based on your readings & experiences. You also do not want to minimize your own learning (that’s why you’re in grad school). These are tools – be sure to use them as such.
- College2Careers through Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities and OSU. The program is fantastic. The goal is to help students with disabilities find and maintain a job. Think of it as a combination of Career Services and Disability Services. They are known to have provided much individual support including covered expenses for students. Governor DeWine has announced that eligible students will get $1,000 grants (’22-23).
