If you took or are taking Quality Assurance through YQCA (https://yqcaprogram.org)  make sure to send a copy of your competition certificate to bruynis.5@osu.edu. We will not be getting reports from the state level and without the certificate your participation will not be counted.

Junior Fair Board Applications are DUE

Jr. Fair Board  Applications – Due November 1, 2021

Encourage your teens to apply for this  opportunity, to be eligible for Junior Fair Board, teens must be 15 as of January 1, 2021, or a sophomore in high school. 4-H and At-Large Junior Fair Board applications are available at the Extension Office and online at:

Applications are due by Monday, November 1, 2021, by 4:00 p.m. to the Extension Office.

Want to become a camp counselor?

4-H Camp Counselor Applications – Due January 6, 2022

The 4-H Camp Counselors are a group of 4-H teens selected to assist in being responsible for campers during 4-H camp. As a result of participation, counselors will develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and aspirations needed for adult success, and the Highland County 4-H program will be strengthened and expanded.

Applications are available  in the Extension office or online at: https://highland.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/camp

The deadline to apply for 2021 is before January 6, 2022, by 4:00 p.m. in the Extension Office.

4-H Adult Opportunities are available

New Volunteer Applications

Now is the time to recruit new volunteers for 2022! Any adult who is going to be alone with 4-H members must go through the volunteer selection process. If volunteers want to be active in 2022, they need to complete the selection process. Applications for new advisors will be due the last Thursday in February of 2022. The forms are available through the Extension office.

Training dates and how to register for Advisor trainings will be available in November.  Due to limited space registration for in-person and virtual trainings will be required.

 

4-H Committee Members Needed

Nominate yourself or someone else to serve on the

Highland County 4-H Committee! Committee volunteers are comprised of volunteer advisors, parents and the business community. The terms are below. Contact Kathy or Danielle at (937) 393-1918 for nominations for one of the following positions:

1 – NE (Leesburg, Greenfield, Hillsboro) – 3 yr. term

1 – NW (Leesburg, Lynchburg, Hillsboro) – 3 yr. term

1 – SE (Berrysville, Belfast, Sinking Spring) – 3 yr. term

2 – SW (Buford, Mowrystown) – 2 & 3 yr. terms

Achievement Form Workshop

On November 7, 2021, Teen Leadership Council will be hosting their second Achievement Form Workshop on Zoom from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center!

This second workshop is specifically for those teens who have already started/previously completed their Achievement Record Form and would like feedback. Teens who RSVP will receive individualized coaching from individuals who are experienced and have had success in submitting their Achievement Record at the state level.

Those interested in attending should RSVP by November 4 at go.osu.edu/AchForm2021. This session will only be hosted in person and will not be recorded.

Highland County 4-H Junior Leaders accepting new members

Looking for fun and exciting adventures as a teen in Highland County?

Highland County Junior Leaders is open to any youth 14 and in the 8th grade.

2021 4-H Awards

2021 Friend of 4-H Award recipients Tammy Newsome and Terry Britton

During the 4-H Summer Awards program, the Friends of 4-H Award recipients were announced, and they are as follows:

Our First Friend of 4-H Award recipient is very helpful with not only the Highland County 4-H Program but also Ohio State University Extension as a whole. He is very supportive of 4-H programming and all that we do for the youth of Highland County. Our first recipient is one of our County Commissioners, Terry Britton. Thanks Terry on behalf of the Highland County 4-H Committee for all your support.

Our second Friend of 4-H recipient has been involved in the 4-H program for many years. She has learned the program from inside and out. She has provided support to the program form the county level to the club level. She continues to be a 4-H advisor and volunteer even though she no longer works for the Extension office. Our next recipient of the Friend of 4-H award is Tammy Newsome. Thank you, Tammy, for all you have done and continue to do for Highland County 4-H.

 

 

 2021 Bob Shanks Awards Recipient Sara Newsome presented by Kathy Bruynis, 4-H Educator and Lana Grover, 2020 award recipient.

Sara Newsome daughter of Terry and Tammy Newsome was awarded the Bob Shanks Outstanding Youth Scholarship. This is the most prestigious award given to a Junior Fair member. Sara is a member of Fab Five 4-H Club, Highland County Junior Leadership Club, Family & Consumer Sciences Board, Highland County Junior Fair board, Highland County 4-H Committee, Ohio 4-H Foundation Board, and Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council where she has held several roles. After college, Sara plans on pursuing a career as an attorney working in family court.

 

 

 

2021 Outstanding Jr. Leader Award Recipient is Catherine Knope

During the Junior Fair Award Ceremony held on Monday during the Highland County Fair, Catherine Knope received the Outstanding Junior Leader Award. This award is given to the Junior Leader who has taken on expanded and exceeded at their leadership roles through 4-H. Catherine is the daughter of Andrew and Staci Knope.

 

 

 

 

2021 Ivor Jones Outstanding Citizenship Awards recipient Dawson Osborn presented by Kathy Bruynis, 4-H Educator

During the Junior Fair Awards Ceremony held on Monday during the Highland County Fair,  Dawson Osborn received the Ivor Jones Outstanding Citizenship Award. The scholarship is given to  a 4-H member who has performed Citizenship activities  through 4-H to benefit your club, your community, your county and your world. He is a member of Highland County Junior Leadership and Premier Showmen 4-H clubs. Dawson is the son of Jake and Wendy Osborn.
