Jr. Fair Board  Applications – Due November 1, 2021

Encourage your teens to apply for this  opportunity, to be eligible for Junior Fair Board, teens must be 15 as of January 1, 2021, or a sophomore in high school. 4-H and At-Large Junior Fair Board applications are available at the Extension Office and online at:

Drug Use Notification Form Forms For Junior Fair Livestock Exhibitors Will Be Completed On-Line This Year

Here is the link for the Drug Use Notification Form (DUNF). Anyone exhibiting Market Hogs, Market Lambs, Market Steers, Market Dairy Goats, Market Boer Goats, Market Chickens and Lactating Goats and Dairy Cattle…MUST fill out a DUNF form for each animal. If you have 2 market lambs then you need to fill the form out 2 times. Forms may be filled out and submitted anytime before crossing the scales or showing!

Buyer/ Sale Etiquette

4-H members may write a letter to potential buyers explaining who they are and what market projects they are taking to the fair. Then send these letters to places that the family does business, or where the parents/guardians work and invite them to the sales. Please do not ask them specifically to purchase your animal as this will turn off some buyers. Also, make sure to thank them if they purchase your animal or for attending the sale.

Calling all Cloverbud 4-H members, please join the Highland Co. Jr. Leadership Club in the Junior Fair FCS Building for a fun time at the 2019 Highland County Fair on:

  Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 2-3 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 10-11 a.m.

Come to one day or both, there will be different activities and games to participate in each day!

Commodity Carnival

2019 Commodity Carnival

Commodity Carnival is a fun learning activity for students to experience managing the business risks associated with producing and bringing livestock to market.  This pop-up booth will have games and activities for any youth to enjoy during these dates and times during the fair.  This activity is open to ANY youth.

Sept. 2, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Sept. 3 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Sept. 4 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Club Secretary, Treasurer, and News Reporters interested in competing in the 4-H Officer Book Contest, must submit their books to the Extension Office by noon on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019. Contest rules are available at:

Baking Contest/Sewing Challenge

Registration forms for the Baking Contest and Sewing Challenge are due to the Extension Office on or before Aug. 27, 2019. The schedule be released on highland.osu.edu soon as possible after the deadline. Registration forms are available at:

The sewing challenge will take place on Monday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. and the Baking Contest will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 9 a.m.

 

Jr. Fair Demonstration Contest

Demonstration Contest forms are due to the Extension Office on or before Aug. 27, 2019. Youth will be placed in Junior, Intermediate and Senior categories for their Demonstrations. All Jr. Fair & 4-H Special Interest (crops, garden, flowers, farm shop, & photography) exhibits must be entered and/or confirmed on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 9:00 a.m. 9:00 p.m. Please do not wait until the last minute!

Booth setup in the Jr. Fair Building is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 30, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 31, from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Jr. Fair Building/Jr. Fair FCS Building Guard Schedules

The Jr. Fair and FCS Building Guard Schedules for the fair are attached. Each club with exhibitors in the building must cover a shift. The Jr. Fair FCS Building Layout is attached. Call the OSU Extension Office at 937-393-1918 to schedule your guard time.

Set Up in the Jr. Fair FCS Building

Decorating and placing projects in the Jr. Fair FCS Building and is Friday, Aug. 30, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 31, from 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. You will need to verify that everyone in your club has displayed their project. Let Diane Keltner or Danielle Combs know by Sunday at noon if a club member did not exhibit. Each club will receive a packet at set up that will show project grades for the advisors to use when placing ribbons on projects. Club premiums should be available for pickup in October. All projects must be in place in the Jr. Fair FCS Building by 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019.

Project Removal from Jr. Fair Building

Items that can be carried out can be removed on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. (No vehicles will be allowed on the fairgrounds.) All other projects can be removed on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. after which tear down begins. We are not responsible for any projects left after noon.

2019 Highland County Jr. Fair King and Queen Applications

Applications for Highland County Fair King and Queen are available on the website at:

Each 4-H club is limited to five girls and five boys they may nominate to be the candidate only if she/he attends a Highland County School, and/or is a resident of Highland County. Applications must be postmarked or submitted on or before Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019  to the Extension Office. The King and Queen Contest will be held on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019. You will be sent a letter with further information upon receipt of your application.
