Highland County SNAP-Ed is making a difference in the community with the nutrition program they are providing.
After teaching nutrition lessons at Bright Elementary I ran into a 3rd grade students’ mother at a basketball game. She said ‘I have to talk to you. My son told me he can’t drink sweet tea anymore. I thought this was odd because he only has a small glass at dinner. When it came dinner time, I got the sweet tea out and he said ‘No, I want water instead’. So I gave him water instead. Then right before bedtime he went in the pantry to get a snack. He usually gets a granola bar but this night he got an apple because he learned an apple was a better choice.’
