Asheville, NC – Highland County Agriculture and Natural Resources/Community Development Extension Educator, Brooke Beam, PhD, won the National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals (NACDEP) Award for Individual Cross Programming. Beam’s virtual reality programming in Highland County was recognized at the annual NACDEP Conference in Asheville, NC, on Tuesday evening.

The award recognizes the innovative programs that have been implemented in Highland County using virtual reality technology at last year’s county fair and partnerships with local businesses and boards, including the Visitors Bureau of Highland County and the Highland County tourism virtual reality video.

Future virtual reality programming in Highland County is planned for the Germinate International Film Fest in August of 2019.

Other Ohio State University Extension Educators that received a national award at the NACDEP conference included Meghan Thoreau, Pickaway County Extension Educator, for the Individual Technology Award and Becky Nesbitt, State Specialist, for the NACDEP Distinguished Career Award.

Upcoming Programs:

A Video Editing Workshop II will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2019, at 3 P.M. at the Lynchburg Library. This workshop will teach basic editing principles on both laptops and mobile devices. Bring your own computer or mobile device to participate. RSVP to the OSU Extension Office at 937-393-1918.

The Germinate International Film Fest will be accepting submissions through June 30, 2019. The festival will be held on August 16 & 17, 2019, in Hillsboro, Ohio. Leadership Highland applications will be accepted through July 15, 2019. Applications can be obtained through the Ohio State University Extension, Highland County website or by visiting the office. For more information about the Leadership Highland program, contact Brooke Beam at 937-393-1918.

A Hops Workshop will be held on July 18, 2019. Cost to attend is $30.00 per person. The workshop will include lunch and a tour of Old Dutch Hops. Preregister at 937-393-1918 or visit the Highland County Extension office. The workshop will be held at the Ponderosa Center at 545 S. High Street, Hillsboro, OH.

Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council

Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council (TLC) applications for the 2019-2020 year are now available!  Please let any interested individual know, so they may apply!  Please note, because it is only a one year term, current TLC members who wish to continue their service must re-apply.

The Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council (TLC) is a statewide group of 4-H teens and young 4-H alumni that provides a youth stakeholder perspective in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Ohio 4-H programming. In this process, council members develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and aspirations needed for future success.  Council members share advice and recommendations to 4-H professionals in order to improve, strengthen, and expand the Ohio 4-H program.  Members also make recommendations regarding opportunities for Ohio 4-H teen programming. They serve as a sounding board for Ohio 4-H program direction.
