Check up…..

Time to do a quick check up.

How are you doing? How are you REALLY doing? I hope you will take a moment and either email me (teresa.kutcher@osumc.edu) or comment on this post and let me know how you are doing. I want to help in any way possible!

The Pushbike Song

I know you may already be tired of these updates as we often look at the Pelotonia event as just another thing to do on our plate.

But what if we were to look at it as an integral part of our job and our person? I mean, we eat so that we can work, play, and live. What if we treated our peloton activities the same way? It is necessary to work and live and reach our goals. Would we talk about it like we do our food or our exercise? Would we plan it like we do our dinner? Or set aside time for it like we do exercise?  I hope that this is what we all work toward.

For me (Teresa), Pelotonia has become one of the motivators to exercise and eat right – I am a cancer survivor and I am so thankful for the work you do, for the support of our many donors, and I want to be a part of that for others. I am trying to be as intentional in talking about Pelotonia (and the Oh! IO PeDa1ers) as I am in talking about and planning my healthy eating and exercising. If I don’t, it falls by the wayside.

Training for Pelotonia 2021 is not just about riding your bike, or working toward your challenges. It’s about training yourself to make this an integral part of who you are and what you do. This can happen in many ways. For me, it has become part of my daily prayer life as well as part of my exercise routine (I plan to either walk 15 miles or bike 25 miles per week this year (after my doctor clears me from surgery). I talk about this often with family and friends (phone, social media, texts) so that I have accountability to continue to overcome a diagnosis I never wanted to have – cancer. That I never want anyone else to have.

Will you share your WHY with us by commenting on this post?

Sample email/letter:

I am excited to share that I am participating in Pelotonia this year as a__________.

Founded in 2008, Pelotonia was established with the objective to fund innovative cancer research and has grown into a global event. To date, Pelotonia has raised more than $217 million for cancer research and directs 100% of every participant-raised dollar to cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC). The OSU community is especially proud that Pelotonia pledged $102,265,000 in 2019 to launch the OSUCCC Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO). This is where I work! We are a bench-to-bedside research initiative focused on harnessing the body’s immune system to fight cancer. You can learn more about the PIIO and Pelotonia’s lifetime impact at Pelotonia.org/Our-Impact.

And we are going to keep on PeDa1ing! I am fortunate to work alongside colleagues, researchers, staff, and students who are passionate about their work toward a cancer cure in the PIIO and the OSUCCC.  PIIO members come from 11 of the 15 OSU colleges and all share a commitment to creating a cancer-free world, one person and one discovery at a time; I am honored and very proud to have the opportunity to support our peloton and the Pelotonia team!

Don’t forget that every single dollar we raise is invested in the brightest minds in cancer research (including me ) who are making cancer therapies less toxic and more effective for patients. From increasing cancer prevention and early detection methods to creating new drugs that are in use today – Pelotonia dollars are truly saving lives.

I’m proud to ask for your support of my fundraising goal knowing that Pelotonia directs 100% of every dollar raised by its participants to innovative cancer research at the OSUCCC-James.

You may not realize this, but both my father and grandfather died from cancer, and two years ago, I fought my own cancer battle. I hope you will consider making a donation by following this link to my profile page at  https://pelotonia.org/profile/(Add in your ID number)  or through the OH!IO PeDa1ers peloton page.

Sincerely,

Thank yous:

  • Are THE 2nd MOST IMPORTANT part of your fundraising and sets the stage for repeat donations each year.
  • Determine if you will send thanks upon receipt of the donation (keep a stack handy or an email template thank you) or all at once after the ride. (Maybe both?)
  • Don’t forget, if you share your donation list with the Administrator, the Captain of OH!IO PeDa1ers will send a thank you as well.
  • Using your list from above, mark off names as you send your asks, receive donations, and send your thank yous.
