Doubt Design

Statement:

My approach for the Doubt scenic design was to be simple and small. I wanted to close off the back half of the stage to make the acting feel more intimate and close. I created some moveable set pieces that would be hinged to fit in different parts of the stage. Most of the small props are automated, and larger props like the desk and chairs will be moved into position by stagehands during blackout moments. Another element I was really happy with was the painting I decided to add to the principle’s office. It’s known as the Incredulity of Saint Thomas and tells the story of the doubtful saint that would only believe Jesus if he saw his wounds with his own two eyes. This project was a really great way to get my feet wet with scenic design and I look forward to making more sets!
