Brian D. Joseph Fund for Greek Dialectology

Professor Brian D. Joseph has made a six-figure donation to establish this fund for Greek language studies. This fund has been established in perpetuity to foster Greek language research, promote Greek language teaching and pedagogy, and attract major scholars from Greece to Columbus for lectures to the University and the Greek communities. Ongoing projects sponsored by the Ohio State Laboratory for Greek Dialectology include archival work on the historical dialect of Kefallonia, making available on the internet the extensive research on the language of Kefallonia conducted in the 1940s by Renée Kahane; making publications accessible to the public through the Ohio State Libraries Knowledge Bank, such as the important documentation of the Greek dialect of Mesta, Chios, compiled by Ohio resident John Kellis; and developing an open-access publication series, Publications from the Greek Dialectology Lab. Funds may also be made available to OSU Modern Greek students for the study and documentation of Greek dialects spoken by their parents, grandparents, or other relatives.

Our goal is to match the amount of Prof. Joseph’s initial donation, bringing the endowment of the Fund to over $200,000. Those who would like to contribute to the Fund can do so at this link: give.osu.edu/Greek or via the following QR code:
