Below is the SolidWorks and the picture of the first design used for Performance Test 1, using 3 inch propellers. The main components of the design that Group J created were the centered arm, the 3D printed parts, and the two propellers located in the back. While working on the AEV design, the group originally wanted the arm of the AEV to be located closer to the back but because of the uneven distribution of weight, the arm needed to be centered. This centered arm helped a lot because it gave the AEV the balance that it needed to complete the track. Winning the grant proposal, Group J was able to print their 3D parts without any cost. The 3D part they designed, was a curved piece located on both the front and back of the AEV. The reason for this piece was added was for an aerodynamic purpose and also to protect the components of the AEV, such as the Arduino, safe from the elements. Lastly, the AEV has two propellers attached on the back. The reason for the choice of the two propellers was due to the results of the propeller configuration test. After testing many different configurations, it was clear based on the results that two propellers in the back pushing the AEV would be the best for the group’s design.
