Meet me

To start out, my name is Mary Katherine Callahan, but I go by Kat. I am a second-year student here at The Ohio State University and am a Sports Industry and Business Major with a Logistics Specialization. I am from Cheverly, Maryland which is a small town just outside of Washington, D.C. I hope to move back to the DC area once I graduate. My dream job is to work as a marketing manager for either the Washington Nationals or the Washington Capitals, hence the Sports Industry Major. I would describe myself as someone who puts their all into everything they choose to do. If I am going to do something I am determined to succeed at it. I know failure is a way of life, but losing always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I am a very competitive person, even if its just in a friendly argument, I am always determined to win it.  While some people might look at this as a bad thing, I perceive it as one of my assets and I know it will help me succeed once I make it out into the business world. This competitiveness would also be how I describe myself as a learner. I have always been one of the top kids in my class, like every other kid in Honors and Scholars, and I take a lot of pride in that. Most of the time kids will say “oh I have to get a good grade so my parents don’t get angry” or something like that, but that was never how I looked at it. Obviously my parents wanted me to get good grades, but I am very self-motivated and that is mainly because of this competitiveness inside me.

As an International Affairs Scholar, I can honestly say I have learned a lot about so many other cultures. Although many people look at my two majors and ask why I am an IA Scholar, I know that it will help me in the long- run. IA has exposed me to so many different people and ideas about the world that I know in the end it will be an asset. It might not fit directly into my life plan, but honestly not much ever does, they main idea is to get as many experiences as you can so that when you reach the end goal, you can combine them all and be the complete version of who you have always wanted to be. That’s what I am aiming for by the end, maybe not the end of my college career, and maybe not for even 20 or 30 years, but at some point I want to be able to look around and say that almost everything I have set out in life to do has added up to something special. I believe that IA will be a very big part of that, through all of the lessons it has taught me and the people it has brought me close to, it will definitely be a big factor in my Ohio State Career and life as a whole.
