“The Wood From Your Woods” program offered at the Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest on November 9th

Southeastern Ohio is the state’s wood basket and known for its abundance of timber producing tree species.  If you’d like to learn more about the wood that they produce, join us at the Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest near McArthur on November 9th.   Eric McConnell, Forest Products Specialist with Ohio State University Extension and School of Environment and Natural Resources will help you to:

  • Understand wood’s role in tree growth
  • Learn to identify 25 common woods by structure, color, odor and other features
  • Realize the many uses of the woods from your woods

 

“The Wood From Your Woods” is part of the monthly 2nd Friday Series sponsored by the Education and Demonstration Subcommittee of the Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest with support from the ODNR-Divisions of Forestry and Wildlife, The National Wild Turkey Federation, US Forest Service, Vinton County Soil and Water Conservation District, Ohio State University Extension, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Hocking College, and Glatfelter.

“The Wood From Your Woods” will take place on November 9th at the Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest, near McArthur.  A registration fee of $10 will include lunch and program materials. Wood identification kits containing 24 samples will be available for participants to purchase for $25 on Nov 9.
