Non-Timber Forest Products – Income Opportunities and Managment Strategies for Ohio Woodland Owners

On Friday November 2, 2012 Rural Action in cooporation with the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities and OSU Extension will be hosting a workshop on Non-timber forest products at the Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest near McArthur.   Topics and speaker include:

  • The woodland resource: managing for multiple benefits- Dave Apsley,  OSU Extension
  • Growing American  ginseng and goldenseal in an Appalachian Ohio Forest – Chip Carroll, Woodwise Botanicals
  • Producing and marketing gourmet woodland mushrooms – Janell Baran, Blue Owl Garden Emporium and Tree Farm
  • Ramps: cultivation for conservationand profit: Tanner Filyaw, Rural Action Sustainable Forestry
  • Producing Natural Wardwood Charcoal from your forest – Scott Bagley, Light On the Land Forest Services

The program willl conclude with a a woods walk and planting demonstraiton.   Cost of the program is $10 which includes program materials and lunch.
