REDCap is a secure, web-based application for building and managing online surveys and data collection forms. REDCap’s easy design environment allows you to quickly create data capture forms with features like a built-in audit log and configurable user rights. It was specifically designed for research data collection which sets it apart from other commercial survey building tools like Qualtrics or SurveyMonkey.
NOTE: OSU’s instances of REDCap have not been validated for compliance with Title 21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 11 and may not be used for eConsent and/or electronic data capture in FDA-regulated research or for any other research with requirements for which REDCap at OSU has not been validated. Using REDCap’s streamlined process for developing projects, you may create surveys, data collection forms, or a combination of both using:
- the online method from your web browser using the Online Designer or
- the offline method by constructing a ‘data dictionary’ template file in Microsoft Excel, which can be later uploaded into REDCap.
The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and the Department of Research Information Technology (RIT) co-host the installation of REDCap at OSU and provide consultation, training, and account management services. REDCap accounts are offered to OSU investigators, faculty, and staff at no cost.
