Registering Your Animals in 4-H Online

An e-mail was sent out this week to all youth who need to register their animals in 4-H Online.  If you received an e-mail, please follow the directions given to complete this task.  All 4-H animals (other than market chickens, market ducks, and market rabbits) should be registered by April 22nd.  If you do not have the e-mail that was sent and need the information to register your animals, please e-mail miles.397@osu.edu.

It is important for you all to know that this step is NOT registering for the Paulding County Junior Fair. That is a separate step that will be completed after all animals are entered and approved in 4-H Online. We do this step to make registering for the fair easier and for you to inform of the animals that you are raising for your project(s).

Quality Assurance Test-Out

Paulding County Extension and the Paulding County Agricultural Society held discussions in September about the potential to allow our 4-H and FFA livestock youth to test out Quality Assurance beginning in 2024.  After discussing the option, the consensus was to allow Quality Assurance Test-Out.  Youth must take the test in Paulding County.  Below is the information that pertains to the Quality Assurance Test-Out option.

Youth ages 8-11 (4-H age)

Testing out of Quality Assurance is not an option for youth in this age group. Youth must attend either an in-person or Zoom Quality Assurance session.  Those who fail to complete this prior to 45 days before the start of the Paulding County Fair will NOT be eligible to have their animal(s) at the Paulding County Fair.

Youth ages 12-14 (4-H age)

Youth may attempt to test out of Quality Assurance in this age group.  Youth who show small animals (poultry and rabbits) will complete the small animal Quality Assurance test.  Youth who show large animals (beef, sheep, swine, dairy, and goats) will complete the large animal Quality Assurance test.  If passed, the youth will not be required to attend an in-person or Zoom Quality Assurance until they are 15 years of age (4-H age).  At that point, youth may try to complete the test again to test out of QA requirements for the rest of their 4-H or FFA career or choose to attend an in-person or Zoom QA.

Youth ages 15-18 (4-H age)

Youth may attempt to test out of Quality Assurance in this age group. Youth who show small animals (poultry and rabbits) will complete the small animal Quality Assurance test.  Youth who show large animals (beef, sheep, swine, dairy, and goats) will complete the large animal Quality Assurance test.  If passed, the youth will not be required to attend an in-person or Zoom Quality Assurance for the remainder of their 4-H or FFA career.

About the Test

Youth will only have 1 attempt to pass the Quality Assurance test per year. A passing score is 70% or higher.  Youth will be told their score, but the test will not be returned to them after it is graded.  This test is not easy.  Youth wishing to complete the test-out option are highly encouraged to study before taking the test.  The Quality Assurance Test Study Guide is linked to the Clover Connection as well as the app. You may visit either place to find the link.
