Mentorship Program FAQs
Who is eligible to apply?
Any staff member at Ohio State University or Medical Center who identifies as a young professional is invited to apply to be a mentee. Eligible mentors must be mid to senior-level staff members with at least a .75 FTE appointment, not currently on a performance improvement plan.
What is the format?
To allow for regional campus participation, the mandatory training and mid-year check in, as well as the optional Fall professional development events, will be hosted remotely through Zoom. There may be additional events that pop up throughout the year that are in-person on the Columbus campus, but these would be optional and are TBD. Each mentorship group gets to decide the format of their monthly check ins.
What is the time commitment?
Participants are required to set aside time every month to meet with their mentorship groups. We also encourage groups to utilize the monthly curated list of resources to spark discussion if you would like, so your time commitment may also include reading an article/watching a video/listening to a podcast, etc. to discuss at your monthly meeting. We also have a number of free professional development events that coincide with the monthly professional development themes, and we would love to see mentee participants attend. Some of these events will be open to all Young Professionals at Ohio State, so it can also be a great way to meet others!
How are participants selected?
Approximately thirty-five mentees will be selected for our first cohort. We will admit applicants based on their responses, with consideration for ensuring diverse representation from areas across the University and Medical Center. Mentors will be solicited from leadership groups across campus, with special consideration given to ensuring a diverse mentor pool that matches the needs of mentees. Location may also be a determining factor in matching for regional campus participants.
