The API communications team works to ensure that amputees, professionals, and the general public know who we are and how they can work with us. The communications team also collaborates with amputees and professionals to make sure we understand the problems we are trying to solve at API.
Mission
Amputees:
While we want to teach amputees about all of the technologies available to them, that isn’t enough. Once amputees know what technologies and procedures are available to them, we want to help connect them with the resources they need to get the best care for them.
Professionals:
We want to help connect professionals interested in accessible prosthetic care with other professionals of similar interest. The motivation behind this is that while a doctor may want to provide the most accessible care possible, a patient may struggle to find a prosthetist or therapist who has similar interests. We want to make sure amputees can receive accessible care at every level.
At the University Level, Some of Our Projects Include:
- Engaging with amputees in our local area
- Recruiting students to join API
- Collaborate with groups (such as hospitals, prosthetists, and other clubs) in the local area with similar missions
- Create networks of professionals passionate about accessible care
At the National Level, Some of Our Projects Include:
- Market research about the needs amputees face
- Develop our website into a useful tool for amputees
- Engaging with the general population via social media so they know how they can help us further our mission
