Off-Campus Scavenger Hunt 

Community Ambassador Coco is throwing a Scavenger Hunt event from March 5th through March 13th, open to all off-campus students! You will be finding out where useful resources, such as legal services, off-campus resources, wellness resources, etc. are located during your scavenger hunt journey.

Follow the instructions below to find all the stations, hand in your checklist at the last station to be entered in a drawing to win one of four $10 Chipotle gift card! In addition, every participant will receive a free Buckeye Block Watch T-shirt. Pick up a check list at our office or print one yourself.

Instructions:

Visit each resource on the check list and accomplish the tasks under each place. For the first 3 resources, you are only required to choose one out of the two options.

If you choose the “Take a picture” option, please show all the pictures you took when you turn in the form at the last station and get a signature from the front desk assistant. Or you can tweet your pictures and hashtag OSU_CA and OffcampusScavenger. For example, #OSU_CA and #OffcampusScavenger

Note:

The checklist is only available for picking up and returning at the Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement Office, located in Room 3106 in the Ohio Union. The checklist is not provided at other stations. You may print the checklist out by yourself here: off-campus-scavenger-hunt-check-list-final.

You must turn in the list to Room 3106 in the Ohio Union between March 5th-March 13th in order to be entered. Be sure to check the open time of each resource!

Apply to be a Community Ambassador or Commuter Liaison Today!

Living off campus next year? If so, consider joining Ohio State’s Community Ambassador and Commuter Liaison program! Office of Student Life’s Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement is looking for qualified, motivated and passionate employees to apply to be Community Ambassadors or Commuter Liaisons for the 2015-2016 school year.

Community Ambassadors (CAs) work with students living off-campus, keeping them engaged with the University by providing relevant information for the off-campus neighborhood. CAs serve as the liaison between the University and the residents on their off-campus streets through fun, engaging community building events. Please visit our website or contact Kelly Simpkins at simpkins.49@osu.edu for more information. Community Ambassador applications and resumes are due Tuesday, March 24th at 8 a.m.

Commuter Liaisons (CLs) in the Office of Student Life advocate for the commuter student population, serve as mentors to first-year commuters, and strive to ensure commuter student retention at Ohio State.  The Commuter Liaisons also manage the Commuter Student Organization and plan and execute programs and events. Please direct any further questions to Amanda McCann at mccann.119s@osu.edu. Commuter Liaison applications and resumes are due Wednesday, April 1st by 11:59 p.m.

CAs and CLs will work approximately 8-10 hours per week, flexible around their class schedules, at a starting hourly rate of $8.30. CA applications can be found here and CL applications can be found here.

Where: Great Hall Meeting Room in the Ohio Union

What: Buckeye Block Watch Bash (BBWB) is a signature event offered annually to the off-campus community by the Community Ambassadors. Off-campus residents can come and check out booths providing resources pertaining to safety regarding self, property, bike and more. Past vendors have included Student Legal Services, Neighborhood Services and Collaboration, OSU Police Department, Student Wellness, Student Advocacy and many more. Come on by to learn about safety in the off-campus area, enjoy FREE food, the chance to win prizes, and much more!

5K For Families

Donate.Run.Have Fun!

Join the Office of Student Life’s 5K for Families, Sunday, March 29 for our family fun run! This 5K will look to give students, faculty, staff and their families a chance to give back to our local community. The entry into the run is free. However, we are asking participants to donate at least two articles of clothing in various sizes suitable for families. If you are unable to donate clothing we are also accepting monetary donations starting at $5 dollars. Please drop-off donations the day of the event during registration. All donations will be divided evenly amongst several local shelters supporting families. For your in-kind donation you will receive a “5K for Families” t-shirt!

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K begins at 9:30 a.m. The run will begin and end at the Lower West RPAC Plaza. Healthy snacks will be provided. #BuckeyesGive

Are you SAFE@Home?

offcampus.osu.edu launched an online Carmen course (also available for iPad/iPhone on iTunes U) covering home security, personal safety, and fire safety.  The course name is SAFE@Home: Security and Fire Education.  Any student can self-enroll in the Carmen course or join the iTunes U course.

Carmen Instructions:

  • Log-in to Carmen and select the ‘Join Self-Enrollment Courses’ link in the top left corner of the Carmen homepage.
  • Select the ‘JOIN…’ link. The list of courses that you see will be in alphabetical order, scroll down to find SAFE @ Home: Security and Fire Education and select it.
  • Select the ‘Register’ button. Enter your street address and select ‘Submit’. Select ‘Finish’. Select ‘Done’.
  • After your registration is completed, you will then be able to access the SAFE @ Home: Security and Fire Education course from the My Courses widget on your Carmen homepage.
