Oestreich Lab Presentations and Young Investigator Award at AIC

 Awards — Autumn Immunology Conference

The Oestreich lab attended the AAI Autumn Immunology Conference in Chicago, IL. Graduate students Devin Jones, Jasmine Tuazon, and Kaitlin Read and postdoctoral researcher Srijana Pokhrel presented posters and oral talks. Kaitlin Read also received an AAI Young Investigator Award, given to the first author of the top abstract in each Workshop category at AIC and selected on the basis of the scientific content. Congratulations, everyone! (Bottom photo courtesy of AAI).

The Oestreich lab joined other Microbial Infection & Immunity (MI&I) peers at Mohican Lodge for the annual fall retreat. Graduate student Devin Jones presented a talk about the role of Aiolos in CD4-CTLs, and graduate students Kaitlin Read and Jasmine Tuazon and postdoctoral researcher Srijana Pokhrel presented posters. Congrats, all!

Srijana Pokhrel and Jasmine Tuazon named as OSU IDI NIH T32 Fellows

Postdoc Srijana Pokhrel and graduate student Jasmine Tuazon were selected as 2022-2023 fellows for the OSU Infectious Disease Institute’s NIH T32 entitled, “Interdisciplinary Program in Microbe-Host Biology”. They will be part of a cohort of 7 trainees (4 pre-doc, 3 post-doc) pursuing novel infectious disease immunology research and engaging in weekly host-pathogen forums over the year. Congratulations, Srijana and Jasmine!

Drs. Oestreich and Vaughn fundraise and ride for Pelotonia

As part of Pelotonia, a community cycling fundraiser to support cancer research at the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Oestreich and Dr. Jennifer Vaughn completed a 38-mile ride. Drs. Oestreich and Vaughn participated as team members for the MII-ghty Bucks peloton, which raised over $14,000 dollars for cancer research! For more information on how you can help bring an end to cancer, please go to www.pelotonia.org.

Kaitlin Read invited for a podium talk at the 2022 FASEB Research Conference

Kaitlin Read, pictured here with MI&I Department Chair Eugene Oltz and MI&I Assistant Professor Jerry Lio, was selected to give a talk at the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) Research Conference in Nova Scotia, Canada. This conference, focused on “The Molecular Mechanisms of Immune Cell Development and Function,” was a prime place for Kaitlin to showcase the latter part of her dissertation work as she prepares for her next big step in her career. We are proud of you!

Dr. Oestreich becomes director of the Immunology and Immunotherapeutics Graduate Program (I2GP)

Oestreich-Ken

Dr. Oestreich is officially named director of the new Immunology and Immunotherapeutics Graduate Program (I2GP). This program enables students to concentrate in immunological areas including, but not limited to, cellular and molecular immunology, immunology of infectious diseases (host-pathogen interactions), translational immunology (immunotherapeutic and immuno-oncology, vaccine development) and systems immunology. Congrats, Dr. Oestreich!

Visit the I2GP website here.

Oestreich lab members present at and receive travel awards for IMMUNOLOGY2022.

Post-doctoral scholar Srijana Pokhrel and graduate students Kaitlin Read, Devin Jones, and Jasmine Tuazon all presented posters at The American Association of Immunologists’ IMMUNOLOGY2022 Conference in Portland, Oregon! Kaitlin and Jasmine received Outstanding Abstract Awards, and Jasmine’s abstract was selected for a block symposium talk titled The Ikaros zinc finger transcription factor Eos as a candidate regulator of TH2 differentiation and function.

Srijana Pokhrel and Devin Jones receive MI&I travel awards

Post-doctoral scholar Srijana Pokhrel and graduate student Devin Jones both received travel awards from OSU’s Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity for IMMUNOLOGY2022 recognizing their hard work and contributions to T cell immunology. Congratulations, Srijana and Devin!

Kaitlin Read receives graduate research fellowship from the Microbial Infection and Immunity and Internal Medicine Departments at OSU

Kaitlin Read received a second fellowship to support her work elucidating the transcriptional mechanisms underlying the balance between T helper 1 and T follicular helper responses during viral infection.  The Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity and The Division of Infectious Diseases offered four (4) one-year fellowships to promote innovative infectious disease research focused on host-pathogen interactions, which were made possible by a recent philanthropic donation. This fellowship will support Kaitlin for the next year as she works to finalize in-progress manuscripts regarding her dissertation work. Congratulations, Kaitlin!
