Can a solid cube 1 foot on a side be constructed from bricks measuring 2″ x 4″ x 8″? Show that your answer is correct.
The cube is 123 cubic inches = 1728 cubic inches.
A brick is 2 x 4 x 8 inches = 64 cubic inches.
And 1728/64 = 27 exactly, so the volume of 27 bricks is just right.
But can the 27 bricks be arranged into a cube? Stella and Jasper aren’t sure . . .
If you can cut one brick exactly in half, the solution isn’t hard.
