Square Root Mistake

Instead of finding twice the square of a number, a student mistakenly found twice the square root of that number, and got 10 as her answer. What is the correct answer?

Show/Hide Solution

Let x be the number. Then 2√x = 10 → x = 25.

The answer should have been: 2 · 252 = 2 · 625 = 1250.
