What is that yellow flower? Butterweed, Cressleaf Groundsell

butterweedbutterweed 2This weed goes by many names: Butterweed, cressleaf groundsell, yellowtop. The latin name is Packera glabella. It does add a splash of spring color, but is not highly desirable. This is a more recent addition to weeds present in Ohio. Comments from the Ohio Beef Newsletter are below and a link to an OSU publication addressing control measures. This weed is the on the Ohio Noxious Weed list because it can be potentially toxic to livestock.
