But that’s not the only issue. The problem is really bidirectional. Depressed patients with chronic illness, have worse health outcomes. Diabetic patients with depression for example, have lower glycemic control, decreased activity levels, higher weight and higher levels of complication and functional impairment.So today, to discuss the effects of Psychiatric and Behavioral Health Management in Chronic Health Conditions are two of Ohio State University’s Psychiatry experts. Dr. Kevin Johns is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry who specializes in treating patients with chronic medical problems. He also works to create collaborate care models to help non-psychiatric providers such as myself better address their patient’s mental health needs. Dr. Ashleigh Pona has a PhD in clinical psychology and specializes in bariatric psychology and & eating disorders.

Joining moderator in the studio are two hand surgeons from the Ohio State University. Dr. Hisham Awan is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. And Dr. Kanu Goyal is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedics.
