Poetry and Pizza: An Autumn Hospital Poets Event

Join us as we welcome Louise Robertson to our Hospital Poets family of poets. She will bring her life as an acclaimed author and mother of two into the reading of her favorite poetry and will also share her own award winning poetry. Her full-length book of poetry, The Naming Of, was released in 2015 and her first novel will be published soon. Her works have garnered nominations from Pushcart and Best of the Net. She currently is promoting poetry through her work with Writer’s Block Poetry Night in Columbus and invites us all to join her on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Hospital Poets featuring Dave Lucas, PhD, Ohio Poet Laureate

Dave Lucas, PhD, was named the second Ohio Poet Laureate by action of the Governor of the State of Ohio in January of 2018. In introducing him, Governor Kasich stated that, “This two year term gives him the opportunity to engage Ohioans of all ages in unique and challenging ways.” Mr. Lucas joins us today to “Help us celebrate poetry in books, on stage and on screen.” He is the author of Weather (VQR / Georgia, 2011), which received the 2012 Ohioana Book Award for Poetry. He is the co-founder of the Cleveland Book Week and Brews + Prose at the Market Garden Brewery. A graduate of John Carroll University, the University of Virginia and the University of Michigan; Dr. Lucas has received the Discovery/The Nation Prize and the Cleveland Arts Prize in recognition of his work. Please join us as this celebrated author brings us into the world of poetry in new and inspiring ways.

The Voice of Freedom

The Voice of Freedom introduces audiences to the operatic art form by celebrating African-American cultural history through song. Universal in its emotional and musical appeal, this unique production will highlight spirituals, gospel, and works from the Harlem Renaissance. The Voice of Freedom aims to share the African-American experience with audiences of all ages, races, and religions. This very special event will be a highlight of the Medicine and the Arts 10th season so please join us!
 
This performance is a gift from Drs. Pat and Steve Gabbe. We thank them for their commitment to Medicine and the Arts and to our Humanism in Medicine initiative.
