Project Statement

This was a collaborative project I did during my senior year of high school. The concept was centered around the idea of branding, with the goal of the project being to create a fictional company of our choosing. My partners and I decided to create “Peak”. Inspired by companies such as TenTree, Patagonia, and Billabong, Peak is a sustainable, outdoor clothing brand meant to help their customer feel their best and achieve their best (a.k.a their peak). In order to make the brand look real, we were tasked with creating a logo, product photography, and a website. For our logo, we designed a primary and secondary logo. The primary logo was the word “peak” spelled out, with the A shaped like a mountain. The secondary logo followed this theme, with it basically being the primary logo enclosed within a circle that has mountains expanding from the bottom. From here, we shot our product photography both by photoshopping our logo onto objects and also creating real, tangible products with our designs printed onto them. We created our products with heat-press designs and photographed them at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Beyond this, the last thing we did was create our website. Wanting it to look as realistic as possible, we included various sections like quotes from customers, highlighted products, and a social media shoutout. We also wanted to make sure we could appeal to as wide of an audience as possible, so we created both a phone and desktop view with accessibility features.

Reflection

During my two-year graphic design program in high school, creating Peak was one of my favorite projects I produced. Collaborative projects on this level can be challenging but I had the opportunity of working with two of my best friends so it felt more fun than it did work. The entire process from start to finish took over two months to complete but every step was worth it and taught me many valuable skills. I was our main photographer so I got a great amount of practice shooting in different lighting conditions as well as editing photos so they look professional and consistent. Beyond this, I got to work on my photoshop skills and quickly learned how to blur backgrounds, perspective warp text, and imitate highlights and shadows within an image. Overall, this project really helped me feel prepared for my first year at OSU both in my photography and design classes.
