Project Statement

With this project, I focused on repetition and pattern in my composition. It was really fun to get to create all kinds of different and unique patterns using similar elements but in different arrangements. The descriptive state of my final product is “trapped” because as I assembled this, I felt like I was constructing a maze.

Reflection

I honestly had a great time with this project. I used vector software and Illustrator which are two things I’ve never used for anything and it really broadened my understanding of the principles of design themselves. There were many moments in this project where I felt that I had no direction or idea as to what I was doing and where it would all lead to. I wanted examples or something to view that would give me a good reference, but honestly, I feel that would’ve diminished my motivation to ideate and create something unique. I’m assuming this is because this is the first project and I’ve never done anything like this before anyway so I don’t know. I would’ve gravitated too close to what I knew was the gold standard example being handed to me and that would’ve been hard to break out of. My only complaints come down to craft and still not getting the straightest or most consistent cuts but it’s nowhere near bad. I’m very pleased with the way both the digital and analog versions came out. The anonymity of the outcome and where my ideas could lead just made it all the more interesting for me in the end. I can and will improve in my craft, but as for the final production, I am pleased with the way it all turned out.
