Project Statement

With this project, I tried to create a space that was entirely personalized. I’ve always loved massive views and lofted areas which is why those are both present in this illustration. I wanted it to be tall because if I were to add a swing, for example, it’d be the perfect space for it. I wanted the room to feel open so I made sure the left wall was entirely made of a collection of windows which not only brightens up the space but keeps you connected to the outdoors which is very important to me. I wanted this space to be simple and cozy with the space for work and for relaxation in a fully-realized living space just underneath an area where I could get down to business and I believe I captured that.

Reflection

I really enjoyed this project and I wish was more ambitious with my design. There was so much freedom but with that freedom also came the challenge of knowing what I was and wasn’t capable of when it came to illustrating the space the way it’s meant to be. Having the massive window and vertical space was my top priority and I had plenty of other ideas to utilize that space such as the inclusion of a long swing that you could sway back and forth on while looking out the window into the city or wherever you may be. I love the way lofted apartments utilize their space and I really wanted to capture that I feel I did but I could’ve gone a lot further to include more. The ceiling is very empty and the floors are barren without a rug or any ounce of texture in sight which is also something I wanted to explore. This certainly captures what I personally would love in my own space, but I could’ve delved more into it than I did. This has been a great learning experience, however. I feel I did the trick in visualizing a room with good depth and structure. I strive to have my own personal space such as this that I can modify and mold to be the perfect space for me.
