Preliminary Design

Individual Designs:

Aaron Jacoby

Pros:

  • Accessible wire connections
  • Nothing obstructing the blades paths

Cons:

  • Not aerodynamic
  • Weight is poorly distributed

Explanation: This design is an straightforward, easily accessible model in which the blades have a clear path and nothing is in its way to ruin the route of the AEV design. Overall, this is an exceptional design in which we will move forward with in revising and continuing to develop and improve.

Jay Lin

Pros:

  • Stable and light weight
  • Exceptional balance due to placement of wheel holder

Cons:

  • Air resistance caused by the rectangular front of model

Explanation: Overall this design is very stable and balanced. It is very important to have stability on the test track so that it doesn’t fall off or tilt over.

Chris Calomino

Pros:

  • A more aerodynamic base design decreases possible air resistance
  • Weights to keep the design on the track and wobble less in wind
  • Thin base equals less air resistance
  • Rounded off nose creates less air resistance
  • More separated wheels to distribute weight better/stay on track

Cons:

  • Requires custom parts
  • Arduino, motors, and battery are far apart

Explanation: This model an exceptional design of our AEV because of its ability to be less air resistant and lightweight for it to move from start to finish smoothly and without any obstacles.

Nitisha Bhatt

Pros:

  • Wings on the side are evenly placed
  • Weight of battery and arduino are evenly balance

Cons:

  • Wings are located on the side which wouldn’t help continue
  • Unevenly distributed weight at some points spoiling its momentum to move forward at first

Explanation: If our group was to continue with my design, it would be because of how lightweight it is as well as its simple but manageable display.

Final Design:

Together, our group decided this model had all the significant qualities we were looking for in an ideal AEV model. Comprised of the unobstructed propellers facilitating its movement, in addition to an easy placement of the battery and arduino and the wires attached, this model seemed the most efficient, balanced and compatible design to further our AEV concept.
