Motor Configuration

The main purpose of Motor Configuration was to determine two optimal AEV designs for Team F to continue testing in Performance Test 1. First, the team took either of the two designs that were chosen in Concept Scoring and revised them, thus creating three new designs, as well as a combined group design. One of the designs from Concept Scoring was also used in this experiment. These five designs are shown below:

Design #1

Design #2

Design #3

After these designs were created, a sample code was created. This code was used for every design, with the exception of a slight modification to the code for the designs that had propellers that faced opposite directions. a reverse command was added to the beginning of the modified code. This sample code and its slightly modified version are shown below:

The data was collected from each designs run. The two major criterion for this experiment were total distance traveled and total energy used. Here is the data from the five designs:

The two designs with the best combination of total distance traveled and total energy used were chosen to be further tested in Performance Test 1. After comparing each design from the tables above, the two designs that had an optimized combination of less energy used and further distance traveled were determined to be Design #2 and Design #3.
